Simmering tensions among House Republicans flared anew over the weekend, following a New York Times report that detailed how Kevin McCarthys (R., Calif.) bitterly contested speakership battle has undermined his confidence in colleagues.
While it took McCarthy a historic 15 ballots to secure the position through Januarys chaos and infighting, the speaker reportedly remains particularly frustrated by certain Republicans including Jodey Arrington (R., Texas) and Steve Scalise (R., La.), the budget committee chairman and House majority leader, respectively.
Mr. McCarthy has told colleagues he has no confidence in Mr. Arrington, the man responsible for delivering a budget framework laying out the spending cuts that Republicans have said they will demand in exchange for any move to increase the debt limit, Jonathan Swan and Annie Karni wrote in the Times. McCarthy still regards Arrington, who sought to nominate Scalise during the speakership balloting, as incompetent, according to more than half a dozen people familiar with this his thinking, the Times revealed.
The leaks, in turn, appear only to have further chilled relations between McCarthy and some members of the conference.
The members Ive spoken with are just stunned by his rebuking of his budget chair, and certainly of our leadership, an unnamed House Republican told Axios on Saturday. The representative expressed doubts McCarthy will serve the full extent of his speakership term.
I cant imagine.

(24,656 posts)But their voters liked their agenda,,,,gaslight Democrats. Except, they are in control of the House and they need to deliver a budget....a budget that most Americans have no interest in. What to do? Implode!

(33,419 posts)The Executive Branch proposes a budget, the Congress passes it, right?
They're not going to put their outline out for public consumption; they'll just snipe at Biden's. Much easier that way.
MyOwnPeace
(16,940 posts)that has worked for the past 20 years or so - blame EVERYTHING on the Dems - they either have to 'provide' a budget (which they will shut down) OR, fail to provide one (if it is 'their turn') and claim the Dems would never pass it.
AND THE FOOLS (Yeah, you MAGAts!) believe it every time - and too many chicken-shit Dems fold because they don't have the balls to stand up and say: "BULLSHIT!!!!!!"
OK - OK - I know - 'DON'T BASH DEMS!' But I'm thinking that if they were 'real' Dems they'd step up and do the right thing!

(4,741 posts)Because Arrington is mud level stupid.
What's amusing is that McCarthy is also stupid, but not so stupid as to trust what Arrington will let loose, and he certainly suspects it won't turn out well. Which indicates a bit of glimmer of a light behind those dead eyes of his.
I'm almost afraid to think that Kev might be the smartest of the very stupid people in Congress.
Is that an example of damning with faint praise?

(22,174 posts)I guess one good thing about this pathetic state of disrepair by republicans and their efforts to literally do anything, is that they are showing all of America just how idiotic they truly are. Makes me wonder if they're all still listening to tRUMP and his idiotic mutterings, and continuing to block anything constructive, decent, etc. by the Biden administration.
More than likely they still are and continuing to fail to address serious issues that the Country faces. Republicans would rather perform 'gotcha' meetings and bowing down and kissing tRUMP's fungus-riddled feet.
