Just finished reading an NYT article that stated that Congress has the power to remove Clarence Thomas but can't because it's gridlocked.
Back when Hillary was running, one of the reasons I wanted her to win was because of the courts. The Supreme Court, the federal courts. Letting conservatives control the selection of the court justices... well, we can see how that played out.
So now, I look at 2024 and I think: somehow, we have to make sure that disaffected liberal and moderate voters come out in force for the sake of the judicial system. I realize that people moan about the economy, but the judicial system is soooooooooooo important in the long term.
I wish more people thought about its power.

(10,124 posts)Starting now. I think weve all been critical of Democrats messaging in the past because they tend to be more policy focused and leave out the emotions. Maybe the White House needs to hire one of the former Republicans, like Rick Wilson, to create a succinct message that resonates with voters.

(4,616 posts)It's the citizens responsibility to have the knowledge to know how their government works. We are where we are now because to much of the public depends on someone else to do their thinking for them and have the right "message". I'd bet more than half the country would fail a basic civics class!

Slaughtering American schoolchildren is OK with them.
We are experiencing the greatest moral decline in US history.
So we need to do something.

(6,150 posts)Every US citizen can vote. You can be illiterate and vote. You can have a 5th grade education and vote. I don't think Democrats should alienate these voters with "you should do research" or "you should understand government". The Democratic party shouldn't just be the party for educated people. It should be for all people who have a stake in a government that works for them, whether they understand it or not.
