Evan Gershkovich Russian born WSJ journalist faces foreseeable consequences

President Biden clearly warned Americans not to travel to Russia after Britney Griner’s incident.

Apparently Gershkowich was basically living in Russia phoning it in so to speak.

It’s irresponsible of the WSJ to commission him and personally irresponsible of him to defy the warnings.

Gershkovich should be left to his and the WSJ devices on this issue.

I’m aware that journalists are important. However, placing them in situations where they become international pawns does nothing good for the journalist, journalism or this country.

— when we are aligned with their enemy and they have already taken one American on flimsy charges, where does the responsibility for caution lie?

It’s not brave to blindly act without consideration of change and consequences.

Yes journalists risk their lives going into war zones. But they are not the target though they may be injured or killed.

It’s not brave to go into a hostile area like Russia where the target is Americans and journalists themselves become the story. What good is that to anyone but Russia who will attempt to extract some exorbitant price for the journalist’s return?

Biden clearly stated that Americans could not be protected.

Anyone with one iota of sense would have followed Biden's directive.

We are at war with Russia, it is like an American parading around in Berlin in 1943,
writing nasty stories about Hitler.

Duh.

Of a nice Russian payday.

The only people who have any legitimate reason to be in Russia would be the various diplomats and support staff working in our Embassy.

She knew it was dangerous to walk alone in that part of town. And dressed the way she was? No sympathy for her.

Or...

He knew full well what could happen to a Black man in a "sundown town", and still he went there after dark. FAFO, dude.

Mighty dark stuff. That OP should be reconsidered, or better yet, withdrawn.

Putin is at war with the US, and Biden warned that Americans in Russia could not be protected.

Very foolish of this guy to ignore Joe Biden.
