General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI post this not because I think anyone really cares or can offer any real remedy, but I am
in one of those "Is this really happening?" moods.
I am not flummoxed by just one current disgusting outrage: today, the whole damn shebang we call "the way things are" seems more like an acid-trip than anything resembling normalcy.
To be concise:
Donald Trump is STILL favored to be the Republican presidential candidate in 2024? How twisted and vile does one have to be to vote for this moral pygmy?
The only distinction that will be recorded on Kevin McCarthy's record will be "First invertebrate political eunuch to serve as House Speaker". "If at first you don't succeed, ------ try 14 more times!"
Marjorie. Taylor. - Greene. This thing that apparently is the "darling" of the MAGA/QANON/WHITE SUPREMACIST/CHRISTIAN NATIONALIST wing of the Republican Party---constituting about 95% of the current Grand Old Party--- is in an entirely new category of "offensive head case". I omit specific outrages attributable to her, not because I can't think of any, but because there are SO MANY that most here have already heard about in sickening detail. That she is at liberty to walk among us is distressing, but the fact that she is STILL in Congress is------i'm sorry. "Obscene" is the best I can come up with.
Yeah, I could go on, but that should serve to outline the scummy mental cesspool that I seem to be sinking into.
If these creatures can be given power over my life and the impassioned respect of millions around me----- why pretend that I am relevant any longer?

(10,218 posts)I can not see any way to end this shit show except a complete collapse of this country.
McCarthys bullshit demands. All the GQP fighting for Diane F. (Like they give one fuck about her) Allowing no temp on Senate committee to stop appointees as judges, and Mitch has the saggy old balls to say they will not allow any liberal judges to go forward, Judge ruling against Bragg, for Jordons subpoena, what a joke, MTG raging all day, Fox wrist slap and continues its bullshit, useless Journalist, on and on. All day everyday, criminals and assholes winning and we just keep spinning wheels. I am emotionally exhausted. Just feel completely defeated. AND, watching the Memphis Grizzlies just beat LA at home, mostly black players for Memphis, the home crowd majority white cheering like hell for them, and so many of those whites support the racists back woods politicians that so hates black people. Go fucking figure.
Truly can not take much more.
And just now, USA mens soccer pregame, one of our players step to a mic before anthems, as the crowd chants USA, USA, USA, the player reads and statement about equality, and that same crowd starts booing. Fuck this place.

(86 posts)I wake up every day and can not believe the shit we are having to live with as reality. it is hard to believe. We are so close to the point of no return it is scary. I keep hearing all the talk about guns and I agree for the most part that we need a lot more restrictions. But I also know that Fascism is rising like a bad dream and I don't plan to march peacefully to the gas chamber. It's nuts.

My mother would quote Longfellow: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/44644/a-psalm-of-life
My dad would sing this:
I heard either of these, I knew to stay in my room and read until whatever triggered it had blown over.
ETA: This too shall pass, anyone who's been constipated knows that's true. It's what I say when I get disgusted.

(53,061 posts)The small bump he got after the indictment is gone. He is hitting between 40 and 49% among Republicans for the nomination which is a terrible number for the leader of the party
Most of the big money has pulled out sitting on the sidelines.

(10,252 posts)Welcome to the Age of KaliYuga - a degenerate age. So I'm a Buddhist, and I'm living here the same as you. Plus I'm a 76 yr senior female with heart disease. There are definitely days when life is a struggle. Plus the absolute stupidity and vileness of MAGAts appalls me. I just don't get how anyone could love a criminal lying con-man. But they do. They also take no responsibility for their anger, fear, and greed.
The Buddhist perspective is that these degenerate times are a target-rich environment to practice compassion for all sentient beings, including animals. All sentient beings. Yes even degenerate assholes like Trump. We're supposed to take the view that the degenerate assholes will be stuck and reborn for eons and eons in samsara (suffering) because of their delusions and negative emotions. I know many Americans are not ready to contemplate Buddhist philosophy and psychology. But it has helped me tremendously to rise more frequently above my anger and dismay at the stupidity of others. I cannot change how others think and behave. I can only change myself and my own point of view.
May you be free of suffering and free of the causes and conditions of suffering.
May you be happy and have the causes and conditions of happiness.
May you know the joy of appreciating the success, happiness, and well-being of others.
May you rest in the equanimity of no attachment and no aversions.

(10,252 posts)It's called "enlightened activity." To do what we are able for the benefit and well-being of others. That's what congressmen in a democracy are supposed to be doing. To work for the benefit of their constituents. Not to block and stymie and make life harder at every turn.
