People who are older than President Biden:

People who are older than Joe Biden:

- Harrison Ford (just made anther Indiana Jones movie)

- Paul McCartney (touring around the world)

- Patrick Stewart (still playing Captain Picard)

- Mel Brooks (producing a new TV series)

We don't need to hear about Biden's age, thanks!

It's not like he's going to be landing Air Force One by himself.

Non-issue.

I'm not saying he's unfit, before all that starts, but let's not act like he isn't doing things as important or more important (or complex, or whatever) than landing a plane.

I'm saying that "He's not going to be flying a plane" is not an indication that there aren't other things that age might impact.

I am in my early 70s and have had health problems.

My mind does not function anything close to former function. I struggle with things that were once simple. A health crisis is an ongoing concern that impacts every decision.

Some Democratic pols have held on too long to the detriment of developing Democratic pols for the future.

Democratic infighting riles me as does the idea that it is a specific politician's "turn".

Biden has faced more challenges and performed better than expected.

In a perfect world, a Democratic POTUS would be younger and less at risk of a negative health event.

I also cannot name an individual that would have done better than Biden under the alarming state of the nation.

Acting/writing/producing is nowhere near as demanding as running a nation.

Age matters. It matters because health, including mental acuity, statistically becomes more *at risk.* This is especially worrisome in someone like Dump, a narcissist, who will cling to power ever more erratically and angrily as mental faculties slip. In Biden, I do not have that worry, and am grateful that we have a supremely qualified VP should anything happen. Nevertheless, it matters. Second, generations matter. It becomes time for political leadership to pass to a newer generation. Nancy Pelosi understood this and embraced the opportunity to make the point and select how that baton is passed.

I will support Biden regardless. He is competent, was the right person in 2020 to comfort and keep safe a tired, sick, and either scared or stupid population, and return real hope for the future. He’s not necessarily the right person for 2024, as fascism is winning state by state, with little organized or vocal pushback by Dem federal leadership, and ineffective pushback at the state level. Biden 2024 is about holding federal Dem seats and leadership for the long haul, but we will continue losing ground in other important ways. Some of that is generational attitude, that it is somehow possible to reach across the aisle… to fascists and psychopaths, as if they were the conservatives of yesteryear. That is not a productive starting place.

a country with 332 million people?

In 2015, the British Medical Journal published an article that concluded:

Election to head of government is associated with a substantial increase in mortality risk compared with candidates in national elections who never served.

The studied populations were:
Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, and United States, from 1722 to 2015.

For the level of stress national leaders are under, he looks pretty damn good but age is something that must be considered.
