Joseph Clark will never forget his first Gay Days. "Just getting off the (monorail) and seeing the sea of red shirts, to this day it gives me goosebumps," he recalled of the annual Pride event at Walt Disney World and other Orlando-area venues, which is neither sponsored by nor exclusive to Disney. Back in 2008, Clark was a regular attendee who made his own red shirt with friends. Now CEO of GayDays.com, he explained the idea is to "wear red, be seen," not so much as a demonstration but a celebration of identity. "It was just a whole group of people together, and there was no judgment going on," he said. "There was no 'Oh my God, they're gay.' Like yep, most of us were, or we had friends and allies with us that weren't, who were just welcoming to the community. ... It was life-changing for me."

When are Gay Days 2023?
Gay Days Orlando runs from May 31 through June 4 this year. Dates vary by year, but always fall in early June and are announced annually on the event's website. Though the event is called Gay Days, it's open to anyone identifying as LGBTQ and allies.
What are red shirt days? What day is red shirt day?
Participants are encouraged to "wear red, be seen." Arguably the most prominent part of Gay Days, red shirt days are when participants wear red shirts to specific parks to celebrate their identity or support others. They're like casual meet-ups, without formal events or mandatory socializing. "It is just nothing but welcoming, people having fun in the parks, enjoying their best Disney life," Clark said.
The first Saturday in June is traditionally red shirt day at Magic Kingdom, but there are other red shirt days at different parks. For instance, June 1 is a red shirt day at Disney's Animal Kingdom and SeaWorld Orlando and June 2 is a red shirt day at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Universal Islands of Adventure.

The Walt Disney Company will host a major conference promoting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights in the workplace in Central Florida this September, gathering executives and professionals from the worlds largest companies in a defiant display of the limits of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis campaign against diversity training.
Disneys decision to host the conference this fall comes amid a yearlong dispute between the company and the Republican governor, who signed a law that ended decades of autonomy at the Disney resort. It was seen as punishment over the companys opposition to Floridas Parental Rights in Education legislation, known widely as the states Dont Say Gay bill, which prohibits any discussion of sexual orientation or gender identity in classrooms before fourth grade.
Disney has had a longstanding relationship with Out & Equal, the organization behind the event, and is listed on its website as one of its most generous sponsors.
The Florida resort has committed to hosting the conference this year and next, which will coincide with the presidential election campaign in 2024. DeSantis is widely expected to challenge former President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination. Michael Chamberlain, chief marketing officer for Out & Equal, confirmed to McClatchy that the conference would be held at The Walt Disney World Resort, Sept. 11-14. Last years summit was held in Las Vegas.

Not only did the timing of the event troll Ron DeSantis, but the event is poised to send him over the edge.
Heres the best part:
Mickey and all of his pals will even be debuting new looks for the party; colorful outfits with nods to gay artist Keith Haring in their design.
The entire event will celebrate and honor the LGBTQ+ community.
Disneys Walt Disney World has faced intense backlash from Ron DeSantis for their support of the LGBTQ+ community. The company previously spoke out against the governors Dont Say Gay law causing him to retaliate.
Disney is now bringing Ron DeSantis to court for infringing on their free speech and he deserves to lose!
One thing is certain!
DONT MESS WITH THE MOUSE!

(145,501 posts)I have been at WDW during gay days. WDW is very friendly to gays. As for scheduling a gay day at WDW, that will happen. The LGBT convention is a good slap in DeathSantis' face.
I am amused that DeathSantis wants to control Disney content.

I have seen a couple of cartoons with young gay characters on the Disney channel (the Owl House) and one of Disney's new sequel cartoons is dealing with some hard issues that will really piss of DeathSantis
These cartoons make me smile

Let's promote the Florida events, as they're the ones that are bucking the narrative.
