My right-wing cousin posted this on Facebook. I did a quick search but cant see what this refers to:
Soapbox moment: The feds are looking at putting new guidelines and restrictions on hunting and fishing. They can't control the guns so they are doing what they can to control how they are used. We are the needed predators for population control in some cases. Hunting and fishing can put food in freezers and tables. Hunting can help keep deer populations healthy by controlling numbers. Fishing is a way for families to get out and spend time in the outdoors away from technology. Please don't let this slip by, this will affect everyone. Law abiding citizens will be limited on how they use their guns and what tackle and where they can fish. Keep this on the radar, folks! Don't let this slip by without researching the ramifications.

(9,629 posts)The Federal Government does have a role in regulating the hunting of migratory waterfowl. But that has been the case for a very long time.
I think they may also play a role in Great Lakes and any waters that make up a state border (ie. Like the Mississippi River). But again, that has been the case for a long time already.

(2,162 posts)I thought it was already banned for bird hunting. Not sure if lead sinkers are banned or not already.

(38,141 posts)I"n November 2021, the animal-rights activist group Center for Biological Diversity sued the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service over a 2020 decision by the Trump Administration to expand hunting and fishing opportunities within the National Wildlife Refuge System. News recently broke that the Biden Administration is engaged in private talks to settle that lawsuit, which could potentially lead to the closure of nearly 100 refuges and potentially million acres of public lands to hunting and fishing, according to the Sportsmens Alliance. (17,425 posts)For coastal waters it is a joint fed/state management council (actually regionally based), but NOAA and the federal fisheries management agencies provide the science on fish stocs. For offshore/palegic fishing, it is the feds.
They monitor and control fisheries nationwide. It is nothing new. Every year, the regulations and limits change based upon management plans.
It is not a secret to anyone.
There isn't a onspiracy to take away fishing rights at either the recreational or commercial sector level.
It can be frustrating, infuriating, and even comical at times, but the system has been around for decades.
That doesn't mean someone isn't spinning some non-issue conspiracy into a tempest.
