(28,805 posts)during Vietnam. it may have been an anti-war message, or not. All I remember is 2 white men in shirtsleeves on the top of a hill, fighting. the message was something along the line if only wars could be solved this way.

(86,664 posts)You are the only other person I have encountered who remembers that one!
It was made during the Vietnam war and it started with A long lead in showing two groups of three men in top hats and bowlers walking toward each other as if readying for a duel of the 1700s or 1800s. When they meet up in a field on a hill, the two men in top hats hand off their hats and waistcoats to their companions and then begin to fistfight and wrestle, two old men.
All the while a voice over narrative describes the vagaries of war and the human cost, the death of our youth who are sent to war and not the politicians who start wars and send the young to fight in and die.
(At this point it becomes clear that that two fighting are politicians.)
The view where the fighting begins is a wide shot but it zooms in at the end showing the two elderly men wrestling on the ground and the voice over saying,
"This is how wars should be fought."
I saw that late at night I think it was for the first election where Nixon was elected. I know I was living at my dad's house in New Hampshire when I saw it, just before the station sign-off. I only saw it once and it was on the Westinghouse owned station which may be why it only aired once. Westinghouse being a major military contractor like Lockheed.
Wow. I am so glad you mentioned that, I never forgot that ad in all these years, it comes to mind every time politicians start talking about war and for every national election.

just looking at the Russian and the Ukrainian nearly coming to blows reminded me of it. If only - let's just duke it out here and now.
of course with the current war in my opinion that was an illegal act of aggression. unjustifiable.

(86,664 posts)Thus my excitement when I saw your comment. I have, on occasion, scoured the intertubes looking to see it anyone has put it up online but still haven't seen it anywhere.
It would be fitting at any time in our history to show that during elections and wars or thoughts of war.
