On Wednesday evening, Santos randomly tweeted for more division within a community he claims to be a part of.
"It's time we all understand that the LGB people have different social issues than the TQIA++++++ people do," he shared.
"So I'm calling for a DIVORCE of the LGB from the TQIA+," he added.
According to The Gay Center, LGBTQIA+ is an abbreviation for "lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, and more."
The community has strived to be more inclusive over the years, adding more groups that step outside social norms about sexuality and gender, and lengthening the abbreviation.

(742 posts)Theyre more like conjoined twins than an unhappy couple.
If a spouse were to spew that vitriol while asking and lobbying their social circle for funds and further attacks on the other instead of just politely going their own ways
well, Ill just let that microcosmic analogy simmer out in the open for you all to ponder. Not a good look.

(38,562 posts)but obviously this is a person who thinks that division is a good thing and that doesn't set with me.
And in making the division he can draw the conclusion that his part of the community is OK, and of course "the other" isn't.
Find (or create) "the other" and demonize it. After all, we all can't just coexist in equality--somebody has to be "better" or "more acceptable" than someone else.
Well, a substantial portion of the folks outside the community aren't going to accept him no matter which side of the "divorce" he's on. If he doesn't know that, he's an idiot.
And who the hell says the community wants a divorce? For this community inclusivity is the name of the game.

(22,362 posts)LGB should be separated from the T, and some who think Q shouldn't be a term at all, and others who are still mad that the B were ever included. Like all communities, it's not a monolith.

(38,562 posts)I don't have a problem admitting that.
And my ignorance has helped me form some kind of "kumbaya" ideal.
Well, I guess I already had that ideal... but my ignorance of the fractions strengthened it.

(9,081 posts)As you note, there have always been various tensions. It's a big umbrella for a lot of different kinds of people.
But the "genital preferences" stuff over the past few years is where more than a few gays and lesbians took a beat and said, "Wait, what is happening here?"
Because that is just conversion therapy coming from the Left now. It's orientation erasure. People didn't like it. Particularly lesbians.
So, now it's becoming more of a thing - more common than acknowledged - and certain parts of the Right are starting to see an opportunity in it.
Attacking lesbians was just a dumb idea. Dunno who thought that one through. I'm guessing no one. It all emanates from social media activism where the real world does not apply.
I'm just glad I'm off the market.

(33,345 posts)I have a childhood gay male friend who has been pretty disdainful of trans women.
That there's a "TERF" equivalent in the gay community is unsurprising.
