Heard it!

(2,010 posts)If you ask me, he did. The bar is SO fucking low for that piece of shit (TFG, not Axelrod).

(2,900 posts)What I heard from Axlerod and others except for the Republican Congressman was a bunch of criticism of trump. But, he might have said that meaning trump didnt hurt himself with his rube base.
Dont think trump helped himself.

(7,627 posts)he steamrolled the moderator, had a friendly audience applauding and laughing at his jokes. From a campaign point of view on the Trump side, it's success. He got a free prime time slot to basically have a Trump rally.

(5,075 posts)That is the best critique he can make????
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)From what I saw, tRump did just fine, and the audience's appreciation, clapping at his most despicable lies, and even cheering, told people what to think. Told them treason was fine. Giving him another try to pull it off is not just respectable but a good thing. This is what CNN did for him and to the nation.

(42,770 posts)golden opportunity he could not refuse... He knew he could talk over moderator. He knew the audience would be all Rs.
It allowed him to solidify and bolster his crazy brainwashing ideas. Truly scary
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)As honest, realistic, and high-minded as he will ever get.
Those people are scary, all right. Their authoritarian strongman's never given even one sign of humanitarian constraint or principle, and they apparently love him for it. Also that the monster he became with even limited presidential power had giant fangs and claws, and they want him back, unchained.

(42,770 posts)It's some sort of scary brainwashing and rallying of people who aren't stupid too. But for whatever reason, are caught in his spell.
Sure do wish mental health experts would offer opinions and help to people who have loved ones like this.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)last night. Right about not "stupid," but that's his term for almost anyone who bothers him in some way. They bother me big time.

(58,785 posts)note to DoJ investigators, who are of course monitoring every public appearance.
Journalists at CNN and others outside the organization called the town hall a debacle, a disaster and CNNs lowest moment.

(42,770 posts)CNN itself, on Kaitlin Collins, on trump, on Republicans, on Democrats, on basic truth, on politics in 2023.
And with each facet, there seems to be good and bad outcomes. For instance, one could make the argument that airing trump's pathological lies can help our side - motivating us by reminding us how dangerously crazy the man is. Hence the bump in Joe Biden's approvals? Hence Katzenberg's funding offer?
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)He used this first presidential campaign (!) event to display open contempt and hostility toward at least 3 named women, including the "nasty" moderator, plus inferred toward women in general.
Bragging about overturning Roe while knowing it strips rights most women value and all need. Refusing repeatedly to say he wouldn't ban abortion nationally, instead alarmingly lying that women are having abortions at "nine months." Smearing Carroll and more Access Hollywood bragging, instead of segueing to fake concern for victims. Unspeakable cruelty against children was wonderfully successful, to be resumed.
Quintessential tRump just from that show. Hopefully, the cheers from an audience apparently scraped up from one of his rallies will encourage him to continue exposing himself. The MORE female interviewers to inspire him, the better.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)+ Access Hollywood tape. OMG you made me think of the horrible way he treated Carly Fiorino.
*Think he knew he almost won in 2020. If he can keep that constituency + concentrate more on close states... Boom. Why he has no desire to moderate & expand
He dug his heels in.
Anxious to see his polling post-town hall.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)I suspect by now most of the more rational ones are avoiding the truth of what they've been part of. So still dangerous. Far, far better to be in our position heading into 2024, tho -- the majority and the good guys.
Off to make comfort food for dinner.

(20,185 posts)He has to appeal enough to the more centrist Republicans and Independents in order to win. His support is dwindling. When someone like John Cornyn says he's unelectable, it means something.

(7,864 posts)Maybe start to look at it from that perspective instead of the naive viewpoint that a man that already fomented January 6th and just praised those insurrectionists is trying to win via the democratic way and you will realize how dangerous this all is.
His goal isn't to win over voters -- his goal is to radicalize his supporters into successfully overthrowing democracy and installing him as president this time around.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)super seriously. She said Biden only won EC because of 44,000 votes in 2020
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)Spurn trump... Where can they go? They may support Hutchinson or DeSantis... But they are not likely to beat TFG in primary.
So just brainstorming here... Where do they go in general? Hold nose and vote for trump, vote for JB, or not vote. That's a huge duh, huh lol
Good news, like you say, his base doesn't grow.

They matter of fact - ly just roll off his tongue now like gospel. And whenever moderator tried to insert truth it just bounced right off him.
Would love to hear debate/communication experts talk about who/how ANYONE could combat this. It was easier before because he acted so wild and rude too.
