Russia is floating a plan to build a village for conservative Americans who want to move to a 'Christian country' and are tired of liberal ideology in the US

Matthew Loh May 12, 2023, 3:16 AM EDT

• Russia is building a village for US expats who are tired of liberal ideology, a lawyer told state media.
• The project is approved, and slated to house some 200 American and Canadian families, he said.
• Russia has in recent years sought to position itself as a bastion for "traditional" moral values.

Russia is floating an idea to build a village for hundreds of American and Canadian families who want to run away from the cultural climate in North America.

The village, slated for construction in Moscow's suburbs in 2024, is meant for conservative families who want to "emigrate for ideological reasons," said immigration lawyer Timur Beslangurov on Thursday, according to RIA Novosti.

Around 200 families have expressed interest in the project, Beslangurov said in a speech at a legal forum in St. Petersburg, the state outlet reported.

Sat May 13, 2023, 11:21 PM
May 2023

Gay kids born to phobe families in the middle of nowhere in the US can stick their thumbs out and head for a city where they can be accepted. Put them in the middle of nowhere in Russia, that's really not the case, although the two big cities tend to be more tolerant.

Plus, they're still going to bring some troublesome and unpopular ideas to Russia and I think the limits on basic human freedoms in Russia are going to cause most of them to turn around and come back here. Plus, they're not going to enjoy the weather. Oh, they're also not going to like the flavor of "Christianity" they find there, although they'll love despising their gay children.

Still, I think they will find a few takers. Neither side is going to be pleased with the result.

It was unbelievable. Red Hat police everywhere terrorizing the populace.
Chinese people very thin, hungry, not making eye contact.
Heads down.

In the hotel, all American emails in and out were read by authorities.
Red hats confiscated our cameras. I once sat down outside on a ledge around
a small fountain. A red hat police came over and made me move.
In China at the time, people were not allowed to sit around anywhere.
Hardly any seats in the airport, etc.

Once in an airport I saw the red hats approach two men and the men
looked truly terrified and they were literately dragged away by the red hats.
Once a group of Chinese police including one red hat came towards me
and my life passed before my eyes in fear.

When I left China, most of the people in the plane were Americans and we
all literally cheered in joy as we left Chinese airspace.

Of course now much has changed in China. The Chinese have a better lifestyle
and the red hat police are gone, now they are all undercover and give the
Chinese a lot of space.

But yes the Magas are in for a very rude awakening.

The only folks making big bucks there are tugboat captains. Teachers, doctor and the like

Their global universities for clinical medicine are excellent though.

As for libertarians (effectively RW in action -- they are NOT liberal socially), they always do their best to destroy the institutions of our government, as do regular RWers, but are only able to in those times when Republicans have control of government.

When Democrats do, like now, we clean out, rebuild our institutions, repair the economy they've gutted for wealth transfers to those they serve.

And, yes, liberal ideology dominates the western world, and the Democratic Party is America's liberal party.

religion and culture will feel right at home to American Catholics. I'm getting warm fuzzies just thinking about it. Do they know, I wonder, that half of Russians are areligious, but otoh they're likely to be isolated

As for Putin's commitment to their futures, a "village" of 200 residential units is not a serious project. I'm guessing they'll be separate cottages around a town square that photograph decently, at least from the outside, but he may also have lost interest in this PR stunt.

that they will be living in an absolute, confirmed, historically verified socialist (should I capitalize that for emphasis?) country where -- if they are permitted to vote (doubtful) -- their votes will mean nothing. The regime has been predetermined and is immutable. Regardless of the ultimate circumstances in which they find themselves in "Mother Russia," they should never be permitted to return to the United States (or Canada, if applicable). They must agree to this before leaving. May they find comfort in the "news" they consume, in the level of surveillance they experience, and in the diminishing value of their rubles. Y'all stay there, now! And you'd damned well better learn to speak the language of your new country. As you have told many immigrants in this country, "Learn to speak English, or go back where you came from!" Now it's your turn. That Cyrillic alphabet can be a little confusing for some. But we're sure you'll do just fine. Right!
