I'm living my best life now. I got a very supportive girlfriend, family, and friends. I'm happy as fuck with my new body. Conservatives can go drink fucking bleach and die I don't give a fucking shit about what they do or what they say about me.

Also if they ever try to hurt me in any way I have a gun on me at all times so they'll be fucking around and finding out if they try something with me.

The next couple Generations are going to be fine with us going forward

I remember thinking, gay folk don't bother me but SHE sure does....her hatred was utterly sickening. It is very disturbing decades later to see this kind of sentiment being openly expressed by one major political party and its hateful base, UGH

There is no right that any group has ever asked for that ever interfered with my own rights.

worse.

But I did well in my life, never suffered career setbacks because of my sexual orientation, if anything - it helped me a couple times. OF course, I was called names a few times, but names never bothered me. I was so happy to have realized who I was that I could handle that with a laugh. I met ignorant, prejudiced people along the way, but so do we all.

As the decades passed, we saw gay people appear on TV and were thrilled beyond measure. I was never a soap opera fan, but we appeared even there I've been told. Books and music about the gay experience were written and old ones rediscovered. Athletes began to come out.

Gay movies were made, many of which I'll bet most here have never heard of, but we went to them in droves! Rocky Horror Picture Show, though a campy spoof, was a delight for gays and straights alike I went to many midnight showings, the only gay person in my group and we all had a blast.

If someone had told me back then that we would be able to marry our own sometime in the next few decades, I never would have believed it. Many prominent people came out as gay. Many, many of my friends began adopting children.

So the generation to which I belong did a HELL of a lot of work, as did the one just before me. How do you think we've come this far?

Things are much, much better than they were, and anyone who lived it can tell you that.
There is ABSOLUTELY no way to compare the treatment of gay people in the 21st century with the treatment of blacks in the 50s and 60s, no way whatsoever.

Please don't diminish either struggle with that kind of comparison.

I live in a blue bubble in North Carolina, and very rarely encounter prejudice against gay folks in my personal or professional life. My workplace is strongly and vocally "woke," so if others have negative opinions, they would certainly never say anything out loud.

I'm legally married to my wife - something that was inconceivable for gay folks not that long ago. Our children and entire extended family love and support us. We have a wide circle of gay and straight friends. "Happy Mother's Day" texts are coming in from all over this morning.

I have a life that Lauren Boebert would envy. I look at her and other mean people and I feel sorry for them. Their lives seem bitter and empty to me.

I realize that not all gay folks are fortunate enough to live in supportive communities, with accepting employees and loving friends and family. Transgender people, in particular, are under attack.

The laws being passed against trans people and gender-affirming care are atrocious. So are the laws being passed against life-giving abortion care for women and children. The Republicans are hateful and I have no doubt will try to roll back civil rights.

I believe that the treatment of Black people in this country is horrible. There is significant racism, institutionalized racism. It's the single biggest problem facing our country imo. Until we acknowledge and address the foundational racism at the core of this nation, we won't be able to address anything else.

The idea that everybody in the same age group can be defined by certain characteristics is kind of silly. Sure, I recognize some of myself in Boomer definitions, but I also recognize myself in the definitions of all the other so-called generations.

We boomers fought for the right for women to play sports on their own teams, to be able to serve in all capacities in the military, to be allowed to love and marry who we want.

Who do you think did all that fighting for women's rights and gay rights? People who were not even born yet? Seriously?

Ever heard of Stonewall?

Ever heard of Billie Jean King? Kate Millet? Gloria Steinem? Bill and Hillary Clinton? John Lewis? Elizabeth Warren? Shirley Chisholm? Ever hear of the book "Our Bodies, Ourselves"? I doubt it.

Instead, I accept the fact that in general, Gen Y is more progressive. And Gen Z is more progressive than them.

It's about the big picture. So, ease up on those triggers.

As old fascists die out, there are younger ones stepping up to take their place. Waiting for the bad ideas to die out with generations has never really worked.

I'm Gen X, and I'm aware there is plenty of hate coming from people younger than me, and they've got the energy (and the gerrymandering and the guns) to roll back a lot of the progress that has been made if we let them.

50's and 60's. Things are better and we will stop the GOP Jihadists. Like Hitler, Trump/DeSantis will come for us all...even some who today support them. The story...they came for the Jews but I was silent, They came for the Black family but I was silent, they came for women but I was silent thus when they came for me there was no one left to stop them...fear for yourself...you and every one of us have a target on our backs...fight like your life depends upon it because it does. But I am confident, we will stop them.

to reset the USA back to the 50s and 60s. Women will be stuck in marriages with 5+ kids, men the sole breadwinner and leader of the household, and gay people forced back into the closet. At least, that's the plan for white people. I'm not fully clear what their plan is for everyone else.
