But after the Trump misinfomercial they just aired, with the blonde (edit: brunette, not that it matters) bobblehead plopped up there with him to be the target of his verbal abuse as he insults a woman he raped and tells over 100 lies in an hour (because the bobblehead evidently hasn't enough self-respect to refuse to be a part of that), I'm still calling them the Conservative Nazi Network.
And I haven't watched that network in years and will not be doing so anytime soon.

(65,068 posts)Working for Colbert all that time? Seems hard to believe.
I think he accepted a job he's not good enough to do, but I have never heard he's far right.
And, if you're confusing this with John Malone, who WAS the CEO of Discovery before the merger, that's misinformation, too.
Yeah, he's a RWNJ but he's a modest stockholder in Warner/Discovery & has no control over anything.
Do I think Licht has massively screwed up? Absolutely, yes.
I think that's incompetence, not ideology.

(10,053 posts)accept being gaslighted by CNN.
msfiddlestix
(7,282 posts)soul, very liberal who is a big fan of CNN. I've rarely commented much on his viewing habits with that network, but after I read of changes in executives, I warned him to be mindful of changes reflecting right wing bias.
He was dismissive, and I didn't attempt to press the point until yesterday when the subject came up. He asked me if I had seen the "townhall" segment online. When I responded that I hadn't but I read all about it, and of course expressed my views on the matter, including a passionate plea for him to cut the cord with CNN now that it is quite clear they're giving tfg a free platform to hold his rally's for his campaign once again.
He strongly disagreed, in fact was upset when I disputed misinformation fed to him by CNN's janitor, Anderson Cooper's gas-lighting critics. He seems to believe that "town-hall" exposed tfg to some of his followers and actually changed some of their minds.
He wants so very much to believe that's true. When I pointed out that the entire world has been exposed to it all quite routinely, anyone who hasn't seen it before would have had to been suffering from a coma for the past 15 years.
CNN gave that racists psychopath a platform for his lies racists rants since Obama took office, CNN is just as culpable as Fox for enabling and breathing oxygen to all of what we have endured since then. For that they should be held to account by viewers but apparently there are too many who just can't quite see it.
Bev54
(10,053 posts)who thought it was a very thoughtful response. When I said it was gaslighting, he is trying to shift the fault to the viewers reaction. She came back the next day after seeing all the coverage that basically said the same, she was a bit distraught. She said she needs to really look at herself and why she was so easily willing to accept what he said (I think her trust in Cooper was part of it) and be gaslit when others could see through it. I get it, sometimes it is not easy to see it if you are trusting of the people doing it.
msfiddlestix
(7,282 posts)but I think you've zero'd in on the crux of the matter.
It's about the weird thing attached to trust, when one places trust in a person or a thing, it's very very hard to face up to any notion that trust was misplaced. That trust is based on a false premise or set of false assumptions.
I's painful to face when the veil is lifted. I think we all have experienced it with personal relationships, or our faith in institutions, leadership etc.

(4,741 posts)It's not who they are (or you think they are) that matters, it's not how they say things that matters.
The only thing that matters is what comes out of their mouths.
Big difference that too many people are too bloody stupid to comprehend.

And it seemed to work, CNN started leaning toward the darkness.
Perhaps a few good people with a megaphone could show up and bring the new term a whirl
Conservative Nazi Network.
It would be something to see how they react!

(18,663 posts)And misogyny than actual criticism of the network. I wound how a male journalist would have been described.
Of course if they haven't watched it in years I suppose it would be hard to say what is actually wrong with the network.

(9,247 posts)....what?
So strange what people choose to focus on in a post.
I haven't watched CNN in years because they were Fascist and now they're worse. That was my point.
But DO continue focusing on ... HAIR. Next time anyone on DU mentions Trump's hair in the negative or at all, I expect the same complaints......

OTH is there any common negative stereotype of men with blonde hair?
ETA> I do not believe references to his hair involve any stereotype, simply that it is bad.
I have criticized the use of fat shaming and homophobic remarks used to insult him.

(4,741 posts)But a riff off the Don Henley song, "Dirty Laundry."
He has a line in it about the "bubble-headed bleach blonde comes on at five/she can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye."
Most of the time, that's what people are hearkening back to when they make the remark.

Its done to women all the time, but not to men. I will bet that you never, ever refer to a male reporter/news reader as the brunette or the redhead.
CNN now sucks and Caitlin Collins is a huge disappointment for enabling their pro-fascist leanings, but shes had a pretty substantial career and shes more than just hair.
ExWhoDoesntCare
(4,741 posts)It's to the Don Henley song, "Dirty Laundry."
The one that has the line about the bubble-headed bleach blonde.
You do know the song...right?

(7,111 posts)It doesn't excuse the reduction of someone to their hair color, which is very, very common with women and almost unheard of with men. It's unfortunate that Kaitlin Collins seems to be willing to carry water for the right, but she is far from a bobblehead. I used to be impressed with her, back when she used to question Trump and got a lot of shit dished in her direction.
