He still has tens of millions of people solidly behind him. Central Iowa was under an actual severe weather warning:

DES MOINES — Former President Donald Trump canceled a rally in Des Moines on Saturday, citing the possibility of severe weather as central Iowa is under a tornado watch until 7 p.m.

There also is a potential for hail and wind gusts up to 70 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The Iowa visit, his second in two months, was expected to help address concerns about his sometimes awkward personal appeal as he met with Republican officials, donors and volunteers, all under the glare of the national media. But DeSantis devoted little time for selfies or handshakes in Sioux Center, where more than 600 people had gathered to see him at an event billed as a family picnic for U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra.

There's actually a technical term for what a narcissist like Trump gets out of these things: narcissistic supply!

What Is Narcissistic Supply?

Attention-seeking behavior—positive or negative—is referred to as narcissistic supply. Narcissistic supply is a form of psychological addiction where the narcissist requires, and even demands, limitless special treatment, admiration, importance, or validation to feed their sense of entitlement and self-centeredness. Narcissistic supply is how narcissists cope with the world, making it a place for them to thrive.

Source: https://www.choosingtherapy.com/narcissistic-supply/

I've been convinced for years now that Trump's rallies are a major source of narcissistic supply for him. I believe that while he was campaigning for potus back in 2015 and 2016, he got really high on the attention he received at his campaign rallies and became addicted to it. I'm sure that's why he kept doing them after he was in the White House: because they give him something he desperately needs and is miserable without.

If attendance at his rallies continues to dwindle, I think there will definitely be a significant negative impact on him. It may not literally kill him, but being deprived of that source of attention and adulation will cause him to decompensate. It's a vicious cycle; if he doesn't get the attention he needs to keep building himself up, he won't be able to continue projecting the air of confidence and bluster that has enabled him to attract and retain followers, which will lead to him getting less and less attention, and so on.

It's just a matter of time now. 😉

His tax cuts didn't help them. Some parts of the 2017 tax revision are hurting his supporters, along with most everybody. His oil deal that he brokered between Saudi Arabia, Russia, and the Saudis getting other producers to coordinate reducing supply is decimating rural areas which require long drives to do anything. His policies helped maybe the top 10%. Most everyone else is worse off.
