Only 2 days left, and the race for Allegheny County executive 'is really Sara's to lose'
Sara Innamorato has the momentum.
Despite a last-minute onslaught of attack ads trying to stop her, the state lawmaker is likely going into Tuesdays Democratic primary for Allegheny County executive with a significant edge, several party insiders and outside observers agreed just days before polls open.
And the signs of her strength run deeper than a recent survey that showed her leading two top rivals, Pittsburgh City Controller Michael Lamb and County Treasurer John Weinstein, political strategists and experts said.
They pointed to a progressive infrastructure supporting her campaign that can be expected to power voter turnout the same organization that has already helped win key races for mayor and Congress in Pittsburgh. And then there are the TV commercials from Mr. Weinstein and Mr. Lamb, which paint the third-term state representative from Lawrenceville as Socialist Sara and unable to deliver on her promises.
Such late attacks are a sure sign that Ms. Innamoratos rivals see her as a serious threat as the campaign nears the May 16 finish line, longtime campaign veterans said.
