Senate bill would create 'intellectual diversity' centers at Ohio State and the University of Toledo

Senate bill would create ‘intellectual diversity’ centers at Ohio State and the University of Toledo
Republican sponsor says centers would be antidote to ‘predominantly liberal’ college faculty
BY: MEGAN HENRY - MAY 16, 2023 5:00 AM

A Senate bill is trying to create new centers at Ohio State University and the University of Toledo that expand and affirm “intellectual diversity.”

“There is a structural preponderance of one line of thought in our universities today,” Cirino said during a recent Senate Workforce and Higher Education Committee meeting. “One of the ways to change the structural preponderance of one line of thought is to set institutes like these up to assist our universities in moving forward with more intellectual diversity.”

He went on to say that university faculty are
predominantly liberal.

“This causes a single ideological perspective to dominate academia,” Cirino said. “With the passage of this legislation, we are giving students and their parents’ options within the market to choose an education that is best suited for them.”

There's a reason youth are liberal. They need change in their world because they're not established yet. They seek opportunity, a fun lifestyle, like-minded peers. They are not a bunch of old, white fuddy-duddies who don't want anything to change because they've got theirs and have figured out how to take yours. Innovation happens in liberal minds. Universities are incubators of economic growth, research, patents, new industries because they are liberal.

"Diversity" centes are bullshit. Money wasted on failed minds and failed ideology. Nothing will come of them except petrified wooden heads.

When you rethugs can show me how your uninformed and ignorant opinions are 'intellectual', then I might believe it. A pile of steaming lies is not 'intellectual' in any way. Universities are 'liberal' because that is analogous with learning. One has to be open minded to learn something. Being open minded is the antithesis of rethug philosophy.

Feel out of place learning facts that don’t coincide with their backwards beliefs so they want tax money to create a little parallel safe space for their whacked out beliefs.

Why don’t they go down to Florida for shit like that instead of dragging Ohios top universities into the dumpster.

It's not born out by the facts, college profs teach their subjects without politicizing anything.

In getting degrees from 4 different colleges, I never once felt like a liberal slant was being given to any subject, but I am an engineer with an MBA, so a lot of math and science. In fact though, the only profressor that openly talked about politicas was a grad school finance professor who was far right wing and spewed nonsense non stop that he and I often sparred on in class, in a playful way. Had him for like 6 classes as that was my MBA focus. He'd be in the middle of talking about finance and then just go to, "Do you know there's areas in France that the police aren't allowed in because Sharia law is in effect there?" I'd laugh and frankly state, "You know that's total bullshit right?"

focuses on the authoritarian antics of DeSantis and Abbott the related nazification of Texas and Florida, Ohio somehow flies under the radar and continues its march into a right wing utopia. Credit the unassuming nature of the Evil Elf acting as governor and grandfather figure to its citizens.
