rule 1, never pick up a gun unless you are going to use it. Before you pick it up make sure the safety is on, and when possible, check that there is no round already in the chamber.

rule 2, never aim a gun at anything or anyone unless you are planning to shoot the thing or the person.

rule 3, after using a gun, make sure it is completely unloaded of ammunition and clean the gun before you lock it away in the gun safe.
