'Please Don't Move'

All of you fighting the good fight in Red states, sticking it out— you are so incredibly brave to me. So many of these states have such incredible natural beauty as well. Thank you for everything you are and everything you do to fight the fascists.

I hate all my trumpet neighbors.
It’s unbearable! Every city council position is a Republican full of nepotism!
I hate my state, my home, and all the dumb people in it!

Which area are you in? I lived in a county that used to be democrat and now is red thanks to gerrymandering. Know that you are not alone. My neighbor across the street used to fly trump flags on his truck and meet up with others. Since the trial the flags have disappeared. Today I saw a bumper sticker that says it all. The dumbing down is almost complete. In big letters it said Homeschooling, the public schools are socialist. Can’t imagine what they children are being taught and how hard it will be for them to to unlearn the lies.

Gerrymandered to hell. Sherrod Brown is next on the current chopping block!
I’ve lived here my entire life. This is my 4th home

Every year they moved in like Nazi’s to deem Ohio as theirs.

Where I worked was filled with them, they denied raises and promotions if they find out you are a Democrat.
Where I lived we had Ted Strickland. This morning FB feed, was a post from local Democrats was this, fairdistrictsohio.org
And another that had Protect Democracy Vote NO in August. Protect Choice Vote Yes in November.
Maybe if there was more advertising this might change some of the problems.

I feel your pain. I am noticing that since the FOX settlement even well educated Republicans continue to double down on the insanity. Ignoring women being pushed back to the cave and saying the left wants abortion to nine months. We ride the bike trails and most people have earphones on completely zoned out and removed. They continue to walk two abreast when bicycles pass. It seems like a zombie movie. I’m noting that the right is so unbalanced that in most cases I do not engage in their insane conversation because I prefer not to be on the wrong end of the gun the state now permits them to carry without training. The only place a gun is not permitted in the state is the statehouse! That tells you everything you need to know. I can’t figure out why anyone would voluntarily move here.

On a side note my doctor asks me, Hope what is wrong with people. I say I don’t know. She answers …do you think it could be inbreeding? She has asked me that on more than one occasion. My guess is that she would know the answer to that better than I would. She must see some crazy stuff! My last appointment I was with her for 40 minutes. 30 minutes of that time was like a therapy session for the doc. At the end of the appointment she said how nice it was to be able to talk and have differing views but still respect each other. I on the other hand was depressed as hell because I had been unable to open her eyes to even one point, zero impact on her line of thinking. It’s really depressing here.

it was truly about 50/50 until after Obama, then, apparently, a whole bunch of people freaked the hell out and decided that unrelenting racism and fear of the world was the way to go.

I hate it here, but DH's job is here and we can't afford to move.

representation...Shontel Brown is my Congresswoman. And we also have Sherrod Brown and a huge bipartisan battle to stop the assault on women via bad abortion laws. In fact, we will face a referendum question in August where the Red scum in the legislature tries to knee-cap...the referendum that would make abortion a constitutional right in Ohio...I suggest you lend a hand. They are afraid of us...and please consider the way Biden won Georgia was by peeling off votes in areas just like yours...thus lowering Trump's numbers statewide.

Every vote counts. And I would bet there are those who don't like what is going on in your area who are afraid to speak which makes me sad. There are many good Democrats in Ohio. The party is weak and in my opinion, plays 'footsie' with the GOP so maybe we get to work and fix things on our own. Ohio went for Obama twice you know. Everyone talks about Texas but if we could get Ohio back which in my opinion is more likely then winning Texas, the GOP is fucked.

Crazy to see American-style Stalinism playing out in 21st Century USA, and I am SO glad to live in a state where all my statewide offices are held by Democrats, as well as every House seat. Come emigrate here to NM. We've got answers to winning rural America, and the best goddam cuisine, red, green, or Christmas.

The argument is identical.

I live in Florida and have put many thousands of volunteer hours into supporting Democrats in the last dozen years. Virtually all the good people who fought along side me in that time have either left the state or moved on from activism. Many of them have not been replaced by newcomers. I appreciate the enthusiasm in the video but talk is cheap. Move to Florida because somebody will need to replace me soon.

anti-Medicare/Social Security GOP idiot. Rick Scott. He is also on the wrong side of abortion. The GOP party of modern fascism has vulnerabilities in 24 although the Senate map looks dire for us, we may have opportunities that will surprise us. We should run a Millennial for the seat. That would shake things up. Look how Biden won his first Senate race.

We have interesting discussions but alway come away agreeing or agreeing to disagree.

One takeaway. He voted for Biden in 2020. He said the GOP left him with no choice. He thinks they are a bunch of liars, their spending was out of control and couldn't stand tRump and said he didn't vote for him in 2016 neither.

To have been able to escape the FOX brainwashing. My family still stands with FOX and while they had shifted to DeSantis for a while there I’m not sure who their pick is now. They don’t see the lies but I think that is that racist desire to spread white power here. These are seemingly normal educated folks with high paying jobs. Weak people though…very weak.

Fri May 19, 2023, 08:53 AM

LGTBQ folks have no choice but to flee these states, they are being targeted for all sorts of rights to be taken and for violence. Parents of trans kids don't have a choice, they can no longer live in Florida and other states or their children will not get the care they so desperately need.

There are states seriously considering travel bans for pregnant women, how could you stay in a state like that if you were a woman or had a daughter? There are states where Republicans have made rape a legitimate strategy for procreation. And what about the states with politicians entertaining the death penalty for people who get abortions? That is on the table for the American Taliban.

I get it, Florida, Texas, and even Ohio can still flip back blue in our lifetimes, but right now those states are becoming more and more dangerous places for minorities, LGTBQ people, and their familes.

I posted it because so many people deeply love their home states, their regional areas, if not their community.
There are those simply CANNOT move anywhere. They are stuck, and terrified. Following the fight in these red states and communities, helping when possible, reassuring them that we are here, and we stand with them and they are not alone is the right thing to do.

We're almost to the point where supporting them will be creating networks and resources to hep people who hae been deemed as less than human by the GOP flee these places. They're passing laws banning trans people from all public life. Ron DeSantis is literally passing laws to throw trans people in jail just for being themselves. We're pretty close to needing a modern underground railroad to get trans people out of these places before it's too late for them to get out.
