SPRINGFIELD Tempers flared on the state Senate floor Thursday during debate of Democratic-led measures, including a bill that clears the way for gun manufacturers to be sued and another that would allow businesses to create multi-capacity bathrooms open to all genders an idea one Republican warned will spark violence.
State Sen. Neil Anderson, R-Andalusia, told lawmakers that he would beat the living p--- out of any man who walked into a restroom with his daughter.
This is gonna cause violence, and its gonna cause violence from dads like me, the Moline firefighter and paramedic said to some cheers from fellow Republicans during floor debate on the measure.

(49,015 posts)Anderson! Heads up! Ron DeSantis is a Republicon like you and wants to rule you.
Under Florida legislation, your daughter and this man would have no choice but to share the same restroom, because of their original birth certificates.
Now, you be waiting there to beat the piss out of him. Then go beat the piss out of DeSantis who is using this artificial moral panic for personal ambition and thereby harming your daughter (in your minds).
Don't spend your bucks in Florida unless you are ready for violence, Anderson!

(42,583 posts)What these bills will actually do is give snoopy busybodies an opportunity to report any man or woman who doesn't conform to sterotypical male/female appearance and mannerisms.

(49,015 posts)... when out and about.
If a trans woman obeys the law and uses men's room, then expect vicious hectoring at a minimum.
If a trans man obeys the law and uses women's room, then expect some violence from male relatives.
By christian conservative design.

(61,671 posts)Anyone who isn't a white straight male dressed in their uniform of slacks and a collared shirt (tie optional), or the loyal subservient wife (white straight female, "modest" dress, low heels) will be targeted.
They're frantically trying to preserve their patriarchal ideal, and trying to wipe out everybody who is dismantling that ideology - independent women with degrees and careers, disrespectful kids who don't dress "like they're supposed to," "uppity" people of color who don't know their place, "invading" immigrants, etc etc etc.

(61,671 posts)And plenty of lesbians and trans women are very feminine looking.
None of the stereotypes are accurate.

(45,469 posts)they don't care. They're obsessed with the idea of men in dresses preying on girls in restrooms.
And that happens here in Washington, DC, one of the most LGBT-friendly cities in America.

(49,015 posts)Know one trans man who was born a woman. He looks like a man. By these bathroom laws if he followed the law as written and went into the bathroom of his birth they would think he was a man and beat the crap out of him. But he was following the law.

(13,562 posts)The company I worked for in the 70s built a new building and the restroom in our work area was like that: toilet, sink, lock on the door.
Also, just as an aside, I find it odd that we've gotten used to calling a restroom a bathroom when there is no bath.

(49,015 posts)Sure there is a bit of a rest on the potty.
But who wants to rest in a public "restroom" with the smells, the traffic, the noise, ....
On the other hand, it is a social norm to wash your hands after using a potty or urinal in a WASHROOM.
They can also be referred to as "toilets".

(45,469 posts)calling it a toilet or lavatory is common in other countries. Or the loo in UK, whatever that means.

(66,414 posts)In Germany, if you have to answer a call of nature, you go to the toilette.
If you want to take a bath, you go to the badezimmer, bathroom.

(34,112 posts)popping up in dumbshit Kansas (amazing). My first thought was that it is perfect. It would be good to have more than one however given the wait times in some women's restrooms, we will take those over out of sheer need!
While I see no need for people to worry about transfolk I do think the bathroom for everyone is uncomfortable at best for a lot of women but dangerous as well. Transfolk are not a danger but cismen are always a danger for women. We need a place to go to go that is comfortable.
