E-Verify system in Florida aimed at scaring off workers in worst jobs. Who will fill in?

https://www.palmbeachpost.com/story/news/columns/2023/05/14/porous-e-verify-immigration-system-in-florida-wont-stop-undocumented/70203458007/

If you’re looking for a job in Florida, you might want to consider some red-hot new career opportunities picking vegetables, tarring roofs or cleaning hotel toilets.

Thanks to the imperatives of campaign messaging, Florida is about to make life harder for the hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants working in the state.

We’re going to be spending millions of tax dollars to fly them to other states or to scare them away by implementing a law that fines some of their employers $1,000 per day for giving them jobs.

You might think that chasing undocumented residents from the farm fields, construction sites and janitorial closets where they’ve been working is an exercise in political bottom-feeding.

is what a crushing and unnecessary burden this places on the state economy. Think home prices and groceries are expensive now .. ?

Edit: Whoops. Realized that might have sounded like I have no concerns or empathies for the labor. Not at all the case. But my focus in the post was how utterly stupid this is in terms of economics. And this by the same political masterminds that are absolutely savaging blue coastal areas for their 'unaffordability.'

So why would that be a reason for the site to be vacant? There could be a dozen reasons there is not activity when that video was being filmed but e-verify would not be one of them.

Why would they? I have no doubt construction companies sent people to Florida to get workers as there’s a national shortage. Someone shows up and promises you work for the next 12 months and transport to the job site? Anyone would jump at that.

Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Utah have the law. Why do people think there will be such a problem in FL when the other states don't have the issue? And why do people think allowing employers to exploit undocumented labor is such a good idea? Its not.

suggesting it’s good to exploit workers no matter what their immigration status is. It’s more dinging DeSatan for being so clueless about the economy of the state he is governor of.

Politicians push for the legislation so they can say they are tough on immigration. However, since it’s not enforced businesses who exploit those workers keep donating to those same politicians.

Undocumented workers. It just discourages and scares them from working. So what do you think they will do when they have no income coming in? And what are businesses going to do with all these jobs. They can’t even get teenagers to work in fast food or grocery stores anymore. They certainly aren’t going to do construction or pick vegetables
