Here’s how I used AI to clone a 60 Minutes correspondent’s voice to trick a colleague into handing over her passport number. I cloned Sharyn’s voice then manipulated the caller ID to show Sharyn’s name with a spoofing tool.
The hack took 5 minutes total for me to steal the info.

60 Minutes hired an ethical hacker to show how easy it is to be scammed. She conned our unsuspecting colleague using artificial intelligence. https://cbsn.ws/3MOhmia

will be all over the web come election season. Russians and magats creating them to make Biden look older and doddering. Unfortunately it's gotten to the point where we'll have to retaliate in kind against trump.

Four months (January) ago I saw/heard a conversation by Biden supposedly talking to Trump. The conversation involved Biden explaining how he got a call from Obama who told Biden to burn all the top secret documents stolen by the Obama White House because the FBI was about to come looking for these stolen top secret documents that Biden and Obama had stolen (as if).

The (voices) of Biden and Trump were derived by Artificial Intelligence. I know that now but didn't know that then or how the bogus Biden recording was derived.

I posted the recording here and asked what the hell is this. The voice of Biden was uncanny and sounded just like him. So I posted it here hoping someone could explain it to me. Also warning how dangerous I thought this AI voice duplication could be if unscrupulous Fascists used this technique during the coming 2024 Presidential and Congressional elections.

So promptly after I posted this asking what the hell - how did they make this - first time I had encountered it. My post was promptly alerted upon - then swiftly removed by the DU gate keepers.

I learned that here at Democratic Underground it is not permissible to ask questions or post something that confuses you in the hopes of opening an expanded discussion so you can learn something.

Some folks here are so rabidly and blindly Blue Team that if anything is posted that even slightly offends them often without just cause - they immediately run and alert or rush to block comments like they are on some kind of deranged ego trip.

There is such a thing as collective intelligence where people share ideas openly to the betterment of all parties concerned. Commonly referred to as a collaborative approach of thinking and of learning.

Then there is also collective stupidity where people are often not open to constructive questioning or inquiry, nor any requests for further clarifications of any subject matter. These people are often egotistical, rude, thinking their opinion only is what really matters and all other comments should be severely criticized, taken down, or removed.

The former are far more prevalent on this web site, thank goodness. But the later who go alert crazy or block crazy really get under my skin.

My remedy is to escape that foolishness. Spend far more time visiting other web sites where needless infighting, rude behavior, and ego clashes do not abound. I drop in here occasionally. But no longer wish to comment here as I did in the past. This being the first comment I have made since January. The only reason being this post involves, addresses, and answers the subject matter that caused my January post to be alerted on. The subject being what I now know is called voice synthesized - Artificial Intelligence.

But with advances in artificial intelligence it is becoming easier and easier to recreate human voices to create automated real-time responses, near limitless dialogue options and speech tailored to a user’s unique input. But the technology raises questions about the ethics of synthesizing voices.

Snip

There are now free online voice synthesizer tools that can be used to mimic celebrities’ or film and TV character voices – often without the permission of those artists. And Bloomberg reported this month that some voice actors were “shocked” to discover their voice being used in content they had not participated in. (They later learned their contract terms had been broad enough to cover such uses.)

Microsoft’s new AI can simulate anyone’s voice with 3 seconds of audio

On Thursday, Microsoft researchers announced a new text-to-speech AI model called VALL-E that can closely simulate a person's voice when given a three-second audio sample. Once it learns a specific voice, VALL-E can synthesize audio of that person saying anything—and do it in a way that attempts to preserve the speaker's emotional tone.

Its creators speculate that VALL-E could be used for high-quality text-to-speech applications, speech editing where a recording of a person could be edited and changed from a text transcript (making them say something they originally didn't), and audio content creation when combined with other generative AI models like GPT-3.
