I think there WILL be a default. Because...

Trump said so.

In a televised CNN town hall appearance, Trump said Congress should claw back money allocated in Biden's domestic spending legislation. "If they don't ... you'll have to default," Trump said. He added consequences of a default could merely lead to "a bad week or a bad day."

And don't forget 40 vote Speaker McCarthy and his precarious position in th eHouse.

MTG and her ilk won't budge.

I believe we'll see a default, they'll pass legislation that keeps vital things running like SS and we see things like National Parks closing and most gov't workers furloughed.

Kinda like in a Gov't shutdown which we've had before.

After a few days, politicians will tuck tail and run back to negotiate.

So many people are getting default on the debt mixed up with a government shut down. The minute we default interest on all our debt goes up. We can’t borrow more money to pay back the money we borrowed. I really think most people especially in the GOP have no idea what is involved. Janet Yellen knows

However, the Treasury can use extraordinary measures authorized by Congress to temporarily suspend certain intragovernmental debt allowing it to borrow to fund programs or services for a limited amount of time after it has reached the ceiling.

Since the United States has never defaulted on its obligations, the scope of the negative repercussions related to a default are unknown but would likely have catastrophic repercussions in the United States and in markets across the globe.

The longer a default existed... the more severe the ramifications.

It wasn’t that long ago that elected officials followed the rule of not criticizing the president when he was overseas, particularly on diplomatic missions. It will be much, MUCH worse.

Not just for the US, but for the whole world economy.

Biden simply has to invoke the 14th Amendment if no deal happens. To not do so would be catastrophic. Even better, Biden should invoke the 14th sooner rather than later to prevent any damage that simply teetering on the edge of default will cause.

This IS NOT a Government Shutdown where Social Security and "essential services" continue despite a budget. The Government runs at a deficit, so it must continually borrow money to spend it. It we don't resolve the debt limit issue, WE HAVE NO MONEY TO SPEND. Period.

Why? Because it is safe, secure and backed by the United States Government.

If Republicans want to see faith in the American dollar falter, weakening us around the world, damaging international commerce everywhere, and killing the "credit rating" of our nation, causing interest rates to rise, than they will stay on course to defaulting on our debts.

I am convinced that chaos agents within their party would see an economic meltdown as a good thing. As their guru, Steve Bannon says, "We've got to tear it all to the ground, and then start over" in order for them to have absolute power.

They are loony megalomaniacs.

Because these are the conditions most favorable to facism, to being able to drive us closer to ending democracy. A decent economy hurts their chances. But high unemployment, increased poverty, makes the masses ripe for the picking. They will need someone to blame. Trump will swoop in with a list of people.

They can't win at the polls. So this is how they do it.
