"SNIP..........
CNN: Biden advisers believe they can hold up what the GOP governor calls his Florida blueprint as a warning to the country about what would happen if DeSantis or any other Republican wins the White House in 2024 a human embodiment, essentially, of Bidens argument that MAGA extremism goes beyond Donald Trump.
And along the way, they believe the Florida governors record may give them a chance at the states 30 electoral votes.

(12,278 posts)but Florida under DeSatan equals to total corruption, stealing/cheating, gerrymandering galore. DeSatan would without a doubt thru his troll legislators pass laws to make sure Democrats don't win.

(14,858 posts)Florida is the biggest MAGAt magnet in the country. De Santis is attracting huge numbers of Republican voting retirees from all over the country. They will continue to increase the state population, and throw any statewide elections toward the Republicans, at least until the Boomers start to die off en masse.

(15,823 posts)Unfortunately for these states they leave is they take their pensions and tax revenue with them. I hope NYC can still raise enough taxes for all their needs. Thats a ton of people.

(14,858 posts)Certainly not to the degree that Florida does. MAGAts prefer to live in a state that will do those things, if they have the option.

(14,858 posts)I doubt the incoming residents are evenly mixed as to political affiliation.
They aren't all coming from the north, either. Lots of the new residents of Florida are from Southern, Midwestern, and Western states. Florida has always been a popular state for retirees, and right now it's particularly attractive to those who are MAGAts. Most of the retirees are never going to be directly affected by De Santis's policies - they don't have kids in school, for example, and they don't need the kind of reproductive care that's being banned or severely restricted. They can cheerlead his reign of terror at no risk to themselves.

(15,823 posts)Republicans are finding out its impossible (of course it is not happening where they believe it is). lol.

(8,254 posts)It would take a herculean effort to flip Florida by 2024.
As a Floridian, I'd appreciate the investment. Lord knows we need it.

(1,156 posts)A totally corrupt demogogue but he infinitely worse because of his sheer cruelty and brutish way of inflicting deliberate suffering and pain in places beyond Florida. That s.o.b. needs to voted out of office and there is no way he should get close to the Oval Office.

(42,334 posts)millions into the state for GOTV, youth, and minority outreach efforts.
75% of registered Democrats in Florida ages 18-25 did not vote in 2022. Many of them were shocked, shocked when DeathSentence and his goons in the legislature banned abortion.
The party needs to work with young activists to help young voters see the connection. Our wonderful GenZ Congressman, Maxwell Frost, has good ideas.
But I fear that it's going to take many years to undo what the Rs have done here. It needs to start at the city and county level so we can build up a base of good candidates.

(58,785 posts)As for those who imagine it's impossible, based on WHAT?
FL went for Democrats 2 of the last 4 elections.
2000 D 48.8 R 48.9
2004 D 47.1 R 52.1
2008 D 51.0 R 48.2
2012 D 50.0 R 49.1
2016 D 47.8 R 49.0 (Big LW anti-Dem noise about evil Hillary/corrupt Dems, attacks on ACA)
2020 D 47.9 R 51.2 (New Cuban & So American MAGA turnout, feeling peculiarly safe from persecution)
These days it's not irrational to think the Republicans may continue to change minds of those who didn't fear the consequences of electing them.

(7,113 posts)and liberal Spanish-language media to counteract the Maga loons and hard-right Cuban propaganda. And it probably needs a big overhaul of its Democratic Party establishment. Time for energized young progressives to take over, like with Anderson Clayton, the new Gen Z party leader in North Carolina.
I doubt a top-down, once-every-four-years approach will do much.
But what do I know... I'm at the opposite corner of the country, just looking on in horror.

(7,412 posts)Many right leaning folks moved here to escape COVID lockdowns and vaccine mandates as well as the civil unrest in some areas at the time. Desantis went from winning by 1% to 20% in just four years. Turned FL from purple back to red for at least the next few cycles.
