I would take all of this with a grain of salt. There is plenty of propaganda all around. News has reported them as Russian military defectors who are sabotaging the Russian war effort from inside Russian territory. Russia has declared them a terrorist group.

Ukrainian military does have several legions of foreigners, including this one. There are other units that include Americans, Polish, British, Canadians, etc.
