I guess there is an anti circumcision group out there. They were around my area yesterday. Big signs and red on the front of their white pants. They call themselves "goodcock" or something.
Amazing

(231 posts)seen "Do you have a rash on your wiener?" or "Is your kitty itchy?" billboards all over town. They have a picture of dachshund or a cat on their billboard for a Veterinary clinic that does low cost spay and neuters.

(231 posts)(bull ring) in our back yard. We put put bird seed and squirrel food (various nuts, etc,). Birds of all types and squirrels, and occasional mouse, come to feast in our back yard. The pigeons are real bullies and chase the doves and little birds all around. We have squirrel matadors in our yard daily. They chase each other, there is nothing like a dozen squirrels running over your roof and into your trees. Hence, the term squirrely, for weird behavior.

Jesus was circumcised.
Jewish baby boys have no choice.

(15,221 posts)I think some people genuinely consider male circumcision an unnecessary medical procedure, possibly harmful, and forced on a baby without choice.
I personally can't get that worked up about it because I was circumcised and it doesn't seem like a big deal to me. I'm kind of happy the word "smegma" has been nothing by a Monty Python joke in my life.
Male circumcision certainly not as extreme or damaging as female circumcision, to which it is often unfairly equated. Female circumcision is explicitly meant to inhibit female sexual pleasure later in life, a clearly repressive measure.

(36,745 posts)While it can be anti-Semitic in some cases, it isnt in many, many other cases.
Its simply about human rights, IMO. The default should be that it shouldnt be done unless requested and it definitely should not be reimbursable unless medically required.
The province of Ontario stopped OHIP reimbursement for it about 20 years ago. Rightly so and our insurance companies should stop reimbursement as well.

(9,019 posts)...and lots of studies show it can be healthier for a baby boy and that it does not really alter the sensitivity of, or lessen the sexual satisfaction of, those who are circumcised.

(2 posts)In the U.S. only 1% of newborn circs are religious and have been for a century.

(9,019 posts)So the circumcision thread got you out, eh?
By 1% religious, do you mean Jewish?
Got some kind of link for that? Cause it sounds way too low.

The highest circumcision rates in the U.S. are in the Midwest, with Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, and Michigan all reporting rates above 80%. The lowest rates are in the Southwest, with Nevada, Arizona, and California all reporting rates below 25%.
In the United States, as many as 85% of male newborns were circumcised in 1965. But that number has fallen steadily for the past half-century, especially as immigration from countries where circumcision is not common has increased. In 2011, the Nationwide Inpatient Sample, as reported by U.S. hospitals, put newborn males' circumcision rate at 57%.

(146,317 posts)Seems like once a year we have a spate of circumcision posts, with the anti group duking it out with the "who cares" group.
And this is not the only place. I remember circumcision threads way back in the late 80s on Compuserve's political forum, too. Same arguments. Maybe the same people. Who can say?

(146,317 posts)It's all too weird. If you Google all of this crap, you'll find that there have been polls to see whether women prefer one or the other. Results are inconclusive.
The arguments against circumcision are very personal, since the effects are rather personal, as well.
It seems a silly thing to argue about, though. You either are or you are not. You either have or you have not.
