These books must’ve been deemed appropriate at one time, what happened? Has anybody read them besides the students?

has either criticism of how Native Americans were treated.

OR

contain stories about how Native Americans actually helped Lewis and Clark accomplished their mission.

Either way, the racists won't like it.

Not only discuss cooperation with Native Americans and treat them like human beings...

But many of the entries are on the racy side. In some parts of the journals, we learn that some Native Americans were quite, er, impressed with the black man in the party (a slave, IIRC), and how they were throwing daughters at him to mate with him.

Plenty of not-child-friendly material like that in the originals, but not sure if they're in the abridged versions that most primary school libraries would carry. After all, the originals run into the hundreds of thousands of pages. Lewis and Clark copied each other's entries quite often for the sensible reason that one or the other one could get killed or their journals lost somehow. The longer the expedition went on, the more copying went on.

That's why few publishers have bothered to release "unabridged" versions--it takes fricking forever to get through the duplications alone, and never mind the "creative" spelling issues. Even then, most of these cleaned up versions run 5,000-10,000 pages. I think the highly-regarded Moulton set runs some 13 volumes at ~300-400 pages each. Not cheap, either, at $370 for the complete set.

It must contain info about how mammals reproduce that the censors are afraid kids might be able extrapolate to figure out how human mammals reproduce! In other words: s e x. That has to be it!

God, trying to imagine how those prudes think makes my head hurt!

Blue states would start taking books out of library’s that are related to republican’s, especially trump, pence, both bushes, Cheney etc. They won’t do that because they know it’s wrong. Wrong to keep people from reading what they want.

Burning books has been deemed “too Nazi-like.”

Shredding them and converting them into toilet tissue is perfectly fine. And yea, I thoroughly expect someone to come up with DeSantis Brand ass wipe “recycled from woke books!”

…even though they’re effectively the exact same fucking thing.

it's in the range of hundreds to thousands of books removed.

They shouldn't be removing any, but we don't help our case by being as loose with the facts as they are.

by any stretch but my cousin in 1986 was forced to do that. It was devastating. This was in Boston Massachusetts. My point is that this is not new procedure. if someone with an understanding of this would speak up I would appreciate it.

This isn't about parental input for what kids read, it's actually the opposite. They want to take these decisions away from parents in regards to what their children read and give those decisions to the state or to a smaller set of extremist parents.
