Disney has taken a significant reputational hit since the feud with Florida's governor, Ron DeSantis, began last year - with the entertainment conglomerate ranked the fifth most polarizing brand of 100 in a new poll.
Analysts surveyed 16,310 Americans between March 13-28 to ask their views on the top brands in the United States.
The results were published on Tuesday as the Axios Harris Poll 100, and showed Disney being buffeted by the storms unleashed in Florida.

Asked if they were feeling more positive about the company than a year ago, 44 percent of Democrats but only 21 percent of Republicans said they were.
Almost half - 42 percent - of Republicans said their feelings about Disney grew more negative over the past year, compared with 12 percent of Democrats.
More than a third of Republicans, 35 percent, said Disney has become less authentic and more divisive - an assessment shared by only 19 percent of Democrats.
Asked whether the company was family-orientated, 63 percent of Democrats said yes, but only 46 percent of Republicans agreed.

OP
No. You misunderstand. Yes the poll does reflect R politicization of this issue

You make a good point about DeSantis opportunism. But polls do not determine cause and effect

Here is the actual poll. The rump organization comes in worst, Fox third worst

But the Democratic rise in approval is APPROVAL of social policies. It does not automatically reflect political gamesmanship.
The controversy has made more Democrats AWARE of Disney's policies. Hence greater approval because Democrats approve of inclusion and support for marginalized groups.
Disney starts from a base level of generally positive brand identity due to decades of entertainment, especially for children. Republiconneds have layered their political orientation over that and the weight depresses their approval of the brand.
Democrats are just liking companies that are inclusive and caring. The result is the same as if there political gaming going on, but that is mostly on the R side.

DeSantis went after Disney because this split already existed and it could boost his street cred with republican primary voters. The poll is not even designed to evaluate what is going on.

One can analyze results to hypothesize the causes of the sentiments the poll observes.
But polls are not generally designed to determine causes, unless there are careful and very specific questions asked about possible causes. And even then, they can only measure sentiment about causes (what people guess are the causes), not actual causes which may be hidden or may be unconsciously suppressed in pollee's minds.
This is just a brand "feelings" poll. So of course it wasn't designed to determine effects, but it DOES evaluate the sentiment that is "going on". It is not poorly designed, per se, though unsurprisingly I have not examined the internal workings (questions, sampling techniques, controlling for variables, etc.). Have you?
You simply want a very different poll to be taken to confirm your suspicions about DeSantis, but I think you will find your suspicions generally shared on DU and you will find broad agreement on DU that DeSantis is an opportunist and not really a leader.
