TPM: Largest LGBTQ+ advocacy group issues travel advisory for Florida

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/largest-us-lgbtq-advocacy-group-issues-travel-advisory-for-florida-as-desantis-readies-2024-bid

Joins the NAACP, The League of United Latin American Citizens, and the Florida Immigrant Coalition and Equality Florida in travel advisories.

Because newly passed laws pose a danger to minorities, immigrants, and the LGBTQ+ community. (and according to Sen. Scott yesterday, a danger to any socialist)

Floriduh, not fit for man nor beast.

busy as usual.

I would bet the hotels are already sold out. They usually are sold a year in advance for the festival, which is held in October.

It's like the Keys' version of Mardi Gras, and the island practically doubles its population during that time.

Meantime, there's Gay Days coming up next week in Orlando, Pride Week in St. Pete, Key West, Miami...No one will change their plans because of this.

5. No one is going to bother you in WDW. Or in Orlando. No need to change plans over safety.

Gay days are coming up either this month or not.

I have many, many friends in Florida, all over the state...most of them gay, but not all. One of my closest is a white woman married to a black man, and though she hates DeSantis, she finds the panic over this hilarious. She has four children. One of which moved away, but came skedaddling back after she experienced life in a different state up north lol.

My gay friends hate DeSantis too, but life is the same as always for them day-to day. They work in all sectors, and not a one of them is in the closet.

This too will pass. Florida will weather this storm as it weathers all storms.

Rough. They'll have to reschedule some of their cocktail parties in Ft. Lauderdale, I guess.

(No, I do not care for them. They're for the benefit of straight people and politicians. If you want to donate in a way that actually helps the community, go Trevor Project).

6. Thank you. Funny, not ONE of the Gay Pride festivals scheduled are planning to re-schedule.

At least not that I've heard.

DUers can boycott Florida all they want, but Florida will still be inundated with tourists during snowbird season. And summer will bring at the Europeans and those who like cheaper rates.

DeSantis is a nasty piece of work, but Florida will survive him.
