Even after learning how ill she was (https://www.today.com/health/news/tina-turner-illness-health-problems-rcna86096), it still seems impossible that anyone so vital - a dancing firework on any stage - could be gone. I wish she could have gone on forever here. But we're blessed to have so much video of her.
Including a Dutch concert from early 1984, at the Maaspoort arena in Den Bosch, that most of you probably haven't seen. 1984 was her comeback year, with her classic album Private Dancer released in May. This concert was a few months earlier, but she'd already released two hit singles included on the album - covers of Let's Stay Together and Help - and those were in the setlist, along with her own earlier hits and some great covers, including her cover of Bob Seger's Hollywood Nights, a phenomenally energetic performance more than an hour into the concert.
She had the same phenomenal energy 25 years later, rocking the GelreDome in Arnhem at the age of 69, ending a 20-song set that had lasted more than an hour with The Best and Proud Mary. I've posted those videos before, but want to share them again tonight.
Tina, you were simply the best. And you always did yourself proud. Thank you for lighting up our world. Heaven must be really shining tonight.
