*Hate due to being a victim of someone's wrongdoing is a major mitigator - though forgiveness is still best.

(21,706 posts)My two grandmothers weren't that way at all, sadly - and both ended up very unhappy.
But one of my great-grandmothers was. She lived to be 92 (would've lived longer, but for an inherited gall-bladder affliction), and was loved by everyone who knew her.

(416 posts)or any other kind of fascist.
More seriously, I've never thought of hate as a separate emotion. I think it's a subset of fear. Hate is a name we have for a particular kind of fear. You never see hate without fear; haters feel personally threatened, rightly or wrongly, by the hated.
I'm not sure I actually fear fascists. I'm just really certain I want to do anything necessary to keep them from getting their way.

(21,706 posts)If you, say, hated Germans or German-Americans - that would be a problem.
If a Ukrainian hates Putin and his entourage, he hates them for what they're doing.
That said, detached objection would probably be best - though it's easier said than done.

(34,505 posts)the general political leanings of many country music fans. Look what happened to the Dixie Chicks back in 2003 or so. Country music isn't my favorite genre, but I have bought music from them, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Willie Nelson, and The Chicks.

(32,849 posts)... and I'm including the Repuke families in that estimate too. Some families won't publicly acknowledge it out of fear or anger. But most Americans can see what the unfair prejudice and hatred towards gays has done to hurt their loved ones.
That's why I believe there will be little traction in this garbage that's being spouted by Lauren Boebert and Empty-Gee, among others. It's going to backfire on them, because I believe most Americans want the discrimination and hateful intolerance to end. Maybe Repukes don't have the nerve to stand up to the loudmouth assholes, but they will vote to protect their own friends and loved ones when the time comes.
Trisha Yearwood is perhaps illustrating quite vividly that ALL OF US probably know someone who is being harmed by the illegal and hateful discrimination of LGBTQ Americans.
