Greetings fellow DUers,
It's been 10 years since I posted regularly here on DU! I hope some folks here will remember me. I posted "The Daily Widget" during the 2008 Presidential election, along with contributors grantcart and dbmk. I just retired about a month ago, so I'm back to hang witcha's.
For those of you who are saying "The Daily What-Who?"... The Daily Widget was a daily post that tracked the 2008 Presidential election polls and tied it all together with neat graphics and discussion, while predicting an electoral outcome based on the current data.
Wondering how we did? In the Daily Widget post of November 1, 2008, the Saturday before the 2008 Presidential election (November 4), I pegged the final outcome at 365-173 in that post. When I am able to locate the post, I'll be happy to share it. You may recall that the electoral college results in 2008 were exactly 365-Obama, 173-McCain.
I'm looking forward to hanging with y'all, discussing the re-election prospects of President Joe Biden, and possibly sharing some of the statistics with you fine folks! I tend to sprinkle posts with my brand of dark, twisted, "dumass" humor. Love me anyway, dammit!

That said, later in life I realized I was a Maryann guy, not Ginger.
So, there's that.

(5,809 posts)CAn you not? LOL -- it's an awesome coinkydink, I must say, and if you can bear some stats...
Population of Canada: 39,566,248
Population of California: 38,940,231
Canada surged by 1,050,110 in population during 2022, surpassing California's population for the first time in a century. Also, in the 2015-2019 period, the greatest concentration of Canuck immigrants to the USA lived in California (16%). Phnyuk! (snort snort)
NERD alert! Love me dammit!

(5,809 posts)... and it was wrapped in the murican flag, of course. Some folks believe the First Amendment stood for the Freedom to be Stupid, lol
Speaking of COVID, I read somewhere a few days ago that many evangelicals believe a conspiracy theory that mean old Dr. Fauci adjusted all the COVID vaccines to cause Christians to stop believing in religion. If only!

(5,809 posts)Even in July, our projections weren't too far off the end result. I remember some DUers had a hard time trusting that Obama would win by such a large margin of EVs, so I tried to include the projections from fellow spazzy nerds as much as possible.
This makes me want to find all the PDFs I saved of the Daily Widget posts. I might have an idea which computer it is on (I'm a computer hoarder, lol)
Great to see you here again, Bum!

(129,669 posts)(the last (D) who did so had been native southerner Clinton in 1996) or would win NC and IN (although I figured IN because it was an IL neighbor and IL was where Obama launched his campaign (in Springfield vs Chicago).
Hoping for a good pickup this coming election season.
