Who do you think will end up being the Republican nominee in 2024?

Trump's huge legal problems don't seem to bother his base, but those problems will probably get worse between now and then. If he's convicted, will that affect his standing with the general Republican body?

DeSantis is sinking like a rock in the Republican polls. He's boring as hell and has nothing except his war on "woke."

Pence might connect with the evangelicals but is hated by Trump's base.

I thought Nikki Haley would appeal to people, but she seems to be going nowhere.

Who will face off against Joe Biden?

They will also be hanging themselves on their own petards over the next year.

Along with eating their own.

Besides Trump, has DeSantis, Haley, Scott, Bolton, or Christie ever been accused of rape?

We don't have to throw rape in it for 100% of them. The vast majority have never forcefully had sex with someone unwilling. I was a Republican until like 26. I didn't rape. My family who are Reagan Republicans (hate Trump) didn't rape either.

No harm, no foul. You're certainly free to disagree with me. You have your beliefs and I have mine. No hard feelings.

But congratulations on escaping Rethugism and becoming a human being. Not many people escape the mind-numbing trap of being a Rethug.

It's incorrect that 100% of Republicans are rapists. You're not entitled to believe that. I didn't rape.

But thank you, I didn't know any better then. I was a big Bob Dole fan for whatever reason. I switched in 2000 for Gore.

Unless Trump is in prison he will be the nominee. Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded. Even if he’s in prison I almost guarantee someone continues to run on the premise they will allow trump to rule from prison through them. The GOP is completely gone without hope of ever coming back to the pre trump days.

... 2012. He will have the same handicap - running against a popular incumbent, but he might get a respectable 30% or so share.

2024 will not be about winning POTUS for the GOP, it'll be about showing a calm campaign and turning out the Huns in the party and turning out votes for down ticket offices.

Romney was the first to turn his back on Trump. Even the republicans that have done likewise since will not forget that original betrayal.

Even Mondale got over 40%, and he lost 49 states. These days, we're too divided for anyone to get under 44%, even Trump. And I wouldn't describe him as "a popular incumbent" either.

I don't think a moderate Republican is likely to gain any traction in the current party environment.

If they were smart, they'd rally behind Hurd or Romney and dump all of the others ASAP. It's really the only way they could win back enough independents to be competitive. If they don't, Trump is likely to divide and conquer the primaries again.

… Тяцмp. Probably 20% of the rest won’t vote for Тяцмp. Those are very bad numbers for them. It means Тяцмp is the only one who can win the primary, but also means it’s unlikely any of them can win the general.

I don’t doubt that they have something up their sleeve, but for the life of me I can’t figure out how they can hope to manage this mess they’ve gotten themselves into. They need nearly 100% Republican turnout to have any hope of beating Biden. I don’t see any way they can get there.
