(17,277 posts)Protecting life in the womb = controlling women and their choices. Easy peasy! Them wimmins is out of control anyways and needs to be reeled back in!
Protecting life anywhere else would affect the choices of men, as well as women, an obvious no-no!

(29,046 posts)she had no argument. she sounded really lame. i just wonder at how she apparently cannot see that for herself.

(17,277 posts)My reaction to this was mixed, because I hate it when people are constantly interrupting and shouting over each other. That's a major turnoff for me, regardless of the content, who's right/wrong, etc. There were some excellent points made here, but there were also times when I just wanted ALL of them to shut up for a hot minute, take a deep breath, and then take turns talking!
I agree with every word Roland said (what I could hear of it, lol), and I agree that the anti-choice lady was laughably uninformed about a lot of things, but I think he could have made his case even more powerfully by letting her state her case without interrupting constantly, and then taking her points down one by one, complete with factual examples.
I enjoy spirited discussions, but I'm not a fan of screaming matches, which is what a lot of this seemed like to me.

(235 posts)to everything he said. Back in the day, before abortion rights were legal, those opposed to abortion were for the death penalty. The pro-lifers have never been for life for everyone, they just want control. I am a woman in my 70's. I remember how it was and I don't like how it is now (in many states).

(4,410 posts)I remember women dying or having permanent injuries. I also remember the long, long debates at the Supreme Court, with extremely detailed information presented by many very knowledgeable people in sworn testimony, over long months, and Supreme Court justices obviously doing a lot of reading on the subject and asking many questions of those giving the testimony, before making their decision.

(6,526 posts)She's already living, and the fetus in the womb is merely potential life.
I don't see life as beginning until the child is born, and a soul is received with the child's first unaided breath.
That's life. Before that point it's just existence.
And then, these so-called pro-lifers do nothing to help mom and her newborn child. They're on their own from that point forward.
Their position on this is truly despicable.

Why do we accept their terminology? Why do we let them define the discourse?
It's not pro-life. It's GOVERNMENT CONTROL of personal life.
THEOCRACY, ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION DENYING OTHERS.
Pardon the all-caps.

(4,552 posts)So when are republicans going to release their healthcare plan for America? Still waiting. We have been waiting for decades! Republicans are not pro life!
She had one point that she repeated over and over. Community health centers are not the solution to systemic racism and healthcare in America.
Pa got told their entire school funding system is unconstitutional. Republicans in the Pa Senate are still blocking any fix. There are 214 schools in the Philly school system there are only ***7 libraries in the Philly school system.*** That folks is the face of systemic racism. Republicans do not care. Republicans want to destroy public education and do not care about healthcare for the poor.

(55,437 posts)Yeah, he can get a little blustery at times, but when it's a useless "talk over them until you win" Republican, that is the ONLY thing that works, and Roland Martin is SO good at not losing a breath while staying coherent, the radical right doesn't get away with their crap with him.
He went out partying with our two daughters one night at New Year's, MANY years ago. Our girls were already a little tipsy, but it was a larger group, and Roland was on his best behavior. Where DOES the time go?
