Could Kerry going to SoS or SoD mean Scott Brown back in the Senate?

I think Kerry would be great for either post. But they would need to make sure his Senate seat is safe.
If Gov. Patrick appoints someone, when would they have special elections? And is there a good Dem candidate to run against Brown?
