I recently traveled 5700 miles in 15 days.
I am a bartender and my usual is to find the local dive bar(s). Also, I am an American Legion Post member so I find the local Post to stop in.
I meet and talk to people and I observe and I have always drank Bud Light.
Throughout three Canadian Territories, and 8 (mostly red states): MT, WY, SD, IA, MO, AR, OK, TX
Fact is, Bud Light is being served and purchased and consumed by Republicans.
Also, Budweiser (which is the King of BL) lol
I believe that the only reason this became a big deal is because people with some power or celebrity opened their pie holes and spouted and the media picked it up with gusto and gave it some gas.
In a recent news article I read that the idiot Kid Rocks bar still serves it
idk if that is true as I would never go there (even if for research 🧐
Ive also seen report of Modelo taking top sales spot over Bud Light. But I do not see Modelo in peoples hands. I do not put Modelo in peoples hands. Even in TX I did not see Modelo in peoples carts or hands.
Yall. The media is the enemy of truth nowadays.
That is all.

(43,160 posts)I don't think the drop in Bud Light sales is a false story by the media. Anheuser Busch knows what their sales are and if they hadn't dropped, they would be responding to stories saying it has.

(5,737 posts)I pointed out my observations of red states consumption of the product.
I would bet that Modelo has been close to topping BL in sales for some period of time. But, I do not know where it is being served. I dont serve it and I dont see it. Anecdotally as my OP title stated.
Thanks for your response.
What do you drink?

(43,160 posts)Seemed like you were challenging the reporting. If not, what was the point of your comment about the media?
And I drink a variety of beers, but have never been a drinker Bud, Bud Light, Michelob, etc. I do drink Stella sometimes, which is an A-B product. I also drink Kona, which is an A-B product.
When I drink Mexican beers, I go with what's available at the bar or, if buying at the store, what is on sale; Dos Equis, Modelo, Pacifico, Sol, Corona, etc.
You pointed our your observation of the few bars you were in for a few hours in some red states. Any idea how many bars are in Texas alone? What you observe over a few hours at a few bars does NOT give one a picture of what's "really" going on.

(43,160 posts)they were dropping?
That's not even remotely likely.

(17,100 posts)Even a 1 or 2% drop in sales would be both alarming and unnoticeable at the scales involved. But Bud and Bud Light haven't been American assets for years now. Also, I find it interesting that one of the companies that unsuccessfully sued to prevent the takeover, Modelo, is now being called out as the beneficiary of A-B's foibles. What a coincidence!

And I used anecdotal as one would use the sarcasm thingy
to try to avoid this type of poke in the eye.
But hey its your right.

(6,829 posts)I think the fact Kid Rock never stopped serving it, even as he was performatively shooting it down, encapsulates the entire episode.
No doubt theyve lost market share but they arent out of the game at all
Effete Snob
(8,387 posts)It is unlikely that Kid Rock has any choice in what is served in his establishment, since it's not as if anyone goes shopping when they run low.
An establishment of any size has a contract with the distributor that determines what is on the taps.
AKwannabe
(5,737 posts)And is fighting the contract.
I literally went in that morning and the GM said we are no longer serving Bud Light.
I was like
.this is nuts! One reason it was easy to walk away.

Of course he prefers the money.

(118 posts)400 miles a day with at least two pitstops in bars per day sounds.......pretty tiring.

(5,737 posts)No
I relocated and visited my kid and grandkids in TX.
Anchorage to TX then back to KC.
Its hot as hell here. Bars, Posts and Casinos were my cooling spots. A/C services on my vehicle but still not keeping up

(2,331 posts)The loudmouth conservatives stopped drinking it here and it is piled high at the beer distributor I go.to. they were doing promotions like a free pint glass. I am a miller.guy so I don't touch the stuff

(22,037 posts)Beer marketing has a strong "manliness" aspect, just like marketing for guns and pick-up trucks and tobacco.
When the brand is no longer "macho", the folks who worry about their manly image will buy something else.
