General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWow! I hadn't paid attention to all the fuss over Jason Aldean's song. Now I know.
I did not know the video was actually shot in front of a courthouse famous for being the site of a terrible lynching. That location was no accident.
Who shoots videos in front of random courthouses?
Someone behind the making of that video knew the awful significance of that specific location. If Aldean himself didn't know, then he's the dumbest man alive. If he did know, then he's the asshole people are saying he is.

To fix a crap voice that can't hit the notes?

(65,168 posts)...we can HEAR the pitch correction! If one is 5 or 10 cents flat, the correction is so fast & subtle we won't hear it.
To repeatedly hear it, he has to be a lot off true pitch.

(6,692 posts)My very humble opinion is people don't keep track of sites lynchings occurred. There are just so many. What I do expect, is if someone steps in it like he has, to go out of his way to shine the light. Help put a stop to what is happening now.
I am not a fan of his music, but he's lucky enough to have a mic in his face. Use it for good or shut up.

(8,013 posts)He's using it for a campaign for vigilantism that appeals to all the magats out there. People are buying his music because they want to support that "we're white and we can do what we want" attitude. It's all over Facebook right now with specially-made memes and even make-believe stories about people who are supposedly supporting him.

(83,898 posts)We also found clips available on stock footage websites, including one from what appears to be a real event and also appeared in the 2021 Netflix movie "Dont Look Up."
This is not the first time Aldean has come under controversy. In 2015, a photo surfaced showing Aldean, who is white, dressed for Halloween in blackface as Black rapper Lil Wayne. He later told Billboard that he had "zero malicious intent."

(3,243 posts)It's like with Trump- he has a following and a huge platform from which he could do good, but instead he does everything to divide the nation.

(24,890 posts)I sincerely doubt that the intent of this was somehow honorable or just good old boy fun.
If so he's dumber than a stump which he is but he's also a white supremacist. Someone can be both.
He isn't going to use his microphone to do good for anybody other than himself and scumbag pieces of s*** Trump types.

(10,063 posts)of right-wing, Trump-loving MAGAs. The lyrics call for vigilante violence against people they dont want in their small towns, just as the KKK in the Jim Crow era threatened any black person who looked at or spoke to a white woman or didnt get off the sidewalk for white people. The video amplified the message by filming in front of a famous courthouse and showing clips of black protesters and looting. Both lyrics and film clearly say that outsiders who are liberals or minorities are not welcome in MAGA small towns and vigilantes will be ready to kill them for any infraction against MAGA beliefs.

(567 posts)Four others wrote it and they have been involved in this before apparently. Add, the song came out first, then they made the video at the lynching site with much thought I'm sure. I've been following Aldean since I learned to sing a few of his songs while out for karaoke during Covey when it was frowned upon.
I first learned that he was a Maskahole and there's some controversy about his wife saying something racist, I can't recall maybe a year to two ago. Someone needs to put this all together with the timeline and review the other songs. I live in maga country but the signs are coming down and not as much this summer in the venues. That said, I know how some of these magas think and they'll take that song and make it another anthem to appease their base while creating controversy for sales. I read that the song broke an iTunes record?
It will be interesting to read a story on this going back the past few years and really dig into this. Lastly, I read that Aldean's heat exhaustion and run off the stage the other day was from playing golf and likely drinking all day. His face has been a bit puffy lately and so is his beer belly! Story pic ads are using his pics from when he was thinner and no so puffy looking.

(3,243 posts)The scene from Hanna Montana doesn't doesn't show the building as a feature. And it doesn't have some brocountry guy singing about "see how far ya make it down the road" if you do something wrong in a "small town".
