(3,053 posts)Been wondering about his health since his recent hospitalization. Daughter said she saw video a big ago where his hands looked really bad, like almost black from lack of circulation.
Much as I despise him & the damage he has done to our beloved nation, I fear what the GOP Senators will get up to without what little guardrail he managed to maintain.
His eyes in that video... not a good sign.

(272,397 posts)Can you fully recover from a TIA?
During a transient ischemic attack, a blood clot restricts or prevents blood from reaching certain subsections of the brain. These parts of the brain may go without needed resources such as sugar and oxygen for minutes to hours. After the TIA resolves, the brain doesn't fully return to normal.

My wild guess is an absence seizure. Now that he's done it so publicly, maybe someone will get his ass to a neurologist, get him on medication.
Those seizures are weird, people just seem to go away mid sentence for seconds to minutes. Most can be controlled with medication.

There are occasionally telltale hand movements during absence seizures, which is why I mentioned it was a bit frustrating not to be able to see his hands after he stopped talking.
He needs to see a neurologist, period.

Light switch off, light switch on, that's the pattern of an absence seizure.
He still needs a workup with a neurologist to rule out worse stuff and get some meds sorted.

(14,097 posts)it looked like to me. My Dad had something similar several years ago and he was able to communicate with my mom something was wrong, but speech was slurred. By the time I got there he had trouble speaking. Got him in the car and took him to the hospital and by the time we got him there, he was able to speak again and talk with the doctor. They did tests and sent him home. I was sure they would keep him overnight, but they didnt.

I think he has been battling several health problems in recent years, but of course he won't admit to any of it.
Lucky for him and the Repukes, he had Kentucky pass a law recently that requires the Governor to replace him with someone from his own party (out of three who will be suggested by the party) if he cannot continue to serve.

(31,014 posts)I fell last summer. I had a brain bleed, and of course, a concussion. An ambulance took me from one hospital to another. I stayed there for five days. It was mostly for observation. However, I was nauseous, and it took several days before I could eat much.
When I went home, I was still unsteady. I fell again, but did not damage my head. They kept me overnight for observation, just to be sure. I had another CT scan. I had short term memory issues for a couple more weeks, and unsteadiness.
If his fall was anything like mine, this is serious. If his fall resulted in a concussion, he should be at home or in a supervised environment.

On the video, he started okay briefly. It seemed like Senator (?) Barrasso had asked him if he wanted to go back to his office and if he had anything else to say and McConnell was "there" enough at that point to seem to indicate no as he stepped back, but then he didn't leave in spite of arms helping him to but just stood with the guys behind.

(7,841 posts)I was at the grocery store waiting to be checked out when the cashier just stopped. A couple of people behind me in line started murmuring a bit wondering why she stopped and what was going on.
The manager came over, told her gently to go on break, then he continued checking customers out. My guess at the time was a petit mal seizure, but I'm hardly a medical expert, certainly not when it comes to epilepsy.
I found a couple of short videos on YouTube, created and placed there so that people can see what it looks like. They call it an "absence seizure." It looks a lot like turtle's behavior.
