(8,316 posts)They intend to rule society, not govern. This sounds like alarmist sloganeering - but its not. If one looks into conservative thought leaders (contemporary right-wing philosophers), their goals are abundantly clear. They talk a lot about restoring the common good, and without shame openly discuss how the ends will justify the means. This explains why todays republicans are entrenched in ideology and *not* democracy.
This post isnt directed at MiHale but rather to anyone reading this thread. I recommend these two recent links:

Edit: A search of Adrian Vermeule will provide a good intro to all this, too. (Scrutinize your sources

(16,973 posts)Since you're the one who is making pronouncements about Harvard professors, apropos of nothing, I think it's on you to prove them. You could start by looking up the faculty roster for Harvard and googling them all. Once you report your findings to DU, we can have a discussion based on facts rather than baseless assumptions.
J/K, but honestly, you are on pretty shaky ground implying that Harvard professors are not very smart, Trump humpers, or whatever you were hinting at (which isn't entirely clear, and I'm not comfortable making assumptions) .

(4,741 posts)Lots of people have emeritus status, including idiots. It's like an honorary PhD, nice to have, but ultimately meaningless.
Harvard also has a guy named Stephen Breyer on actual staff. Ever hear of him? Are you going to say that he's nuts or an idiot, too?
Look, I spent many years either working admin for professors, or spending time with them socially because my stepfather was a professor (and a Harvard-educated one, at that). That's why I know for a fact that every single university department has at least one idiot on their payroll. Some departments have more idiots than others (business, especially), but not a single one of them is bereft of such a creature.

(4,741 posts)You'd learn that they have a great number of intelligent and incredible professors...Including a liberal Supreme Court justice named Stephen Breyer. You may have heard of him.
They have an impressive roster, for those who know how to understand what that entails.

VERY popular with tRump's followers who want an Orban and fallen democracy of their own.
"Come back, Mr. President, make America great again, and bring us peace! Orban to CPAC audience after claiming the Western world is "under attack from a virus developed in progressive liberal laboratories." But authoritarianism is the antidote. (He passed on calling it a vaccine to this crowd. )

With a healthy assist from the Russians. So THEY cash their Socialist Social Security check and send a hunk to their own freedom loving hitler. Are the good people of America giving penance for some unknown reason?

(19,889 posts)Good to own a firearm if you have the proper background and get training, if you are untrained.
Bad to buy a firearm with the preconceived idea of using it to kill anyone, especially members of any specified group of people.
I sympathize with your feelings, but de-escalation of the possibility of any armed confrontation should be priority.

(35,523 posts)The Republican party as a political organization does not exist. It has become captive of the Republican donor class who panders to the worst, most fringe elements of the American political spectrum in order to appear as though it has popular support.
It's the Republican donor class, the party per se that's driving the bus.
