(16,759 posts)How about all the battleground states? Those are the ones Trump and his henchpersons would be motivated to mess with.
I don't think those clowns would bother with states that are reliably either deep red or deep blue. They'd go after the ones where a relatively small shift in the numbers could impact who gets the state's electoral votes.

I think it is an appropriate give back for all the squirming they have caused the nation.

Will Arizona be the next state to indict former president Donald Trump?
By Nicole GarciaPublished August 15, 2023 5:19PM
/div]
PHOENIX - Arizona could be the next state to indict former president Donald Trump on charges in connection to trying to overturn the 2020 election results.
****
Arizonas Attorney General is currently investigating, and Governor Katie Hobbs says she hopes to see Arizonas fake electors face criminal charges.
"Absolutely. I have been an advocate for holding folks involved in trying to overturn the will of the voters in the 2020 election accountable, and this is part of that," Hobbs said.
Arizona is mentioned several times in Georgias indictment as Trump and his allies reportedly contacted lawmakers to get them to overturn election results in his favor.
Fake electors in Georgia and Michigan are now facing several felony counts, including making false statements, conspiracy, and corruption charges[

(570 posts)and the actual story that just says she "hopes". The original headline makes the story sound fake.
Lonestarblue
(10,283 posts)not either. But wasnt Arizona the state where Ginni Thomas called a Republican and urged him to overturn the election? Now thats someone Id like to see investigated for aiding the creation of slates of fake electors.

(36,478 posts)"The attorney generals office has confirmed that an investigation into Trump, his allies and Arizonas fake electors is underway, but gave no indication on when charges would be announced.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said, "The attorney generals office cannot comment on an ongoing investigation. We do not have any updates to share or comments to make on the Georgia case at this time.""

I imagine it as a chilling final turn of the plot. His world is coming to an end. He will never have another good day. Loser label will haunt him. The law will pursue him. Mental illness will hobble him. His properties will bankrupt him.

Which is exactly why Mayes, a Democrat, should not spend her time going after Trump.
Enough is enough. To pile on at this point is to simply give Trump more ammunition to decry the unfairness of it all.
The 11 patriots who falsely claimed to be duly elected by the states voters to cast Arizona's electoral votes for Trump. Among them were Arizona Republican Party Chairwoman Kelli Ward; once-and-future state lawmaker Anthony Kern; Jake Hoffman, a digital marketing operator and now state senator; and Tyler Bowyer, a top executive with Turning Point USA who also sits on the Republican National Committee.
The Arizona Republican Party attorney who helped Team Trump flesh out the fake elector plan.

(11,478 posts)besides plain numbers, I 'm not sure if there is much of either strategic or legal value in copycat indictments. And too - both clear cut as well as prospective and theoretical downside that should be part of calculations. But every state that had any whisper of a 'false elector' scheme going on - should have investigation(s) going on high heat. The integrity of the voting process is among the bedrock of democratic values - and every state has a vested interest.
I would also not be real opposed to seeing any state that refused to take measures and 'protect the process' feel some concerted 'pressure' on that issue from the federal government. It is after all a civil rights issue. (As well as a national one. Let the red state legislatures defend a clear cut case of 'vote stealing' and political corruption if they choose to .. )

(50,630 posts)I hope, as should all of you, that every state that had a slate of fake electors brings Trump up on charges. Since this is an interstate criminal conspiracy Jack Smith will need to issue a superseding indictment under the separate sovereigns doctrine to tie all those together at the federal level
and Tanya Chutkan will throw the book at him with the greatest of pleasure.
In the movie X-Men: The Last Stand, the government built a special prison inside a semi trailer to house several of the most dangerous mutants and kept it in motion to stop the supermutant Magneto from breaking them out. Theyll have to do something similar for Trump
not because hes such a dangerous man but because every state deserves to have him in their own prisons for at least a little while.
