(1,640 posts)As much as I love dogs, the false equivalency of dog lover = good person has always bothered me. Yes, dogs have a special intution regarding human beings, but that is linked to a normal instinct to avoid danger. Dogs sense when someone is a threat to themselves and the people or animals with whom they are socially bonded.
The fact that Trump doesn't like dogs probably does say something about him, but it doesn't speak to whether dogs like him. It is weird though. . . Considering the fact that dogs will give virtually unconditional loyalty to someone who offers them even a small measure of the quality in kind, one might think that Trump would love having the comfort of such a creature.
But as many have observed, Trump demands total loyalty towards himself but cannot offer an ounce of it to anyone else. He is utterly self-involved and would sacrifice anyone around him for his own advancement or protection. There is not a single human being-- or principle or belief-- for whom he would put himself on the line for even a second.
Dogs, on the other hand, are capable of great sacrifice, and are thus, "saps" in Trump's POV--not unlike soldiers willing to die for their country. Dogs are also incapable of lying--even though they can engage in "sneaky" behavior. Trump, I suspect, is incapable of ever telling the truth. He may be able to state a fact, but he can never share or face any truth that comes from within.
He really is a sorry excuse for a sentient being. Even Hitler--whose name has been iconic for evil-- faced a certain truth about himself when he committed suicide. He had failed and he was unwilling to accept the consequencies of his failure. Trump can't even see that he has ever failed at anything. This is probably why his failures keep expanding in scale.
Poor POS, if anybody ever needed the honest, uncomplicated comfort of a canine, it's him. And he can't even appreciate what Man's Best Friend has to offer.
