When Is a "Gift" Actually a Gift?
Most of you have have probably already heard that Mitt Romney, the Republican Presidential nominee, has followed other Republicans and stated the reason President Obama was reelected was that he offered free stuff to his supporters. That statement made me ask the question that is also the title of this post. When is a "gift" actually a gift?
Was Mitt Romney's 20% across the board tax cut a gift for someone? Was cutting the corporate tax rate to about 25% or less a gift for someone? Was adding $2 trillion (that the military did not want) to Defense budget for someone? Was getting rid of regulations, including Dodd-Frank a gift for someone? Was taking earned income benefits programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medcaid and turning them into voucher programs a gift for someone? We're any of the things Mitt Romney offered to numerous individuals and groups gifts for anyone?
If the items mentioned above were not gifts I would like Mitt Romney to tell me what they were. If Romney had won the Presidential election certain people would have benefited. So, why is what he offered to his supporters not seen as gifts?
