6' 3"

I'd like to take a moment to talk about three things I've been thinking about. The first of these has to do with the sad news that Cha shared with us on Sunday, about the unexpected death of community member "Me." Back about 19 years ago, Me, Saoirse9, and I became pretty close friends on DU's "Plame Threads." It turned out that Me and I had more in common than being internet buddies.

Me liked hearing stories about my four children. There was one she found particularly hilarious. One day, my younger son -- in his early teens -- called out to me, "Yo, Dog!" I explained that was not the nature of our relationship, and he agreed. Seconds later, I heard him say, "Yo, Pup!" Me said it was indeed a measure of my son and my relationship.

Next, I'd like to comment on the defendent's claim of being 6' 3" and 215 pounds. Below is a film of a 6' 3", 213 pound heavyweight champion. Were the defendent not a sociopath, he would experience shame in claiming to be in the same physical shape as the Champ. Indeed, his pathetic lie provides evidence of how his brain avoids shame.

Call it speculation on my part, but anyone reading this who watched the film has thought of a substitute for Cleveland "Big Cat" Williams in the above clip.

Now to the defendent in 2024. I suspect that even if by some miracle the USSC ruled he was ineligible to be president -- "Miracles do happen, they just take a doggone lot of work" (Rubin Carter; Washington, DC; Jily 4, 1976) -- the republican party will nominate him to be their candidate. And, of course, President Biden is our candidate. In theory, having the defendent as their candidate puts us in a position to wipe the mat down-vallot.

But we can't be overconfident. It will take a "doggone lot of work." And as Rubin used to remind me, the best defense is a hell of an offense. I think it is important to consider how grass roots citizens can help focus on the enemy. I almost wrote "the opposition," but they are the ignorant, unconscious enemy. These issues are important for us to be considering now, and an essential one.

The need to crush them was illustrated in an OP/thread a couple days ago (It was locked as in the wrong forum, and really should have been in GD, because it is an important reminder:

https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=3122325

As noted in the comments, "conservative" is not accurate. They are radicals. People my age recognize that today's republicans make 1964's Barry Goldwater look like a stable thinker. It has the synergy of the white nationalists and rabid-right christian sects -- and there is a heck of a lot of overlap in their ideologies. Their interpretation of the Constitution is cloned from their total misunderstanding of the message of the bible. They are the kids you couldn't stand since grade school, and they still insist on telling you how to live your life.

2024 offers us a unique opportunity to crush them. If we only beat them, this cancerous growth will continue to grow. Thus, we should spend some time considering the issue of the post-2024 succession. I'm not referencing two of the "big three" theories (social learning or succession planning), which apply as much to the corporate world as the political. Even the third, transformational leadership, has to be viewed in a certain context. However, it is important to recognize its focus on empowering its members and thus changing institutions.

We have to recognize the three primary types of "leadership" in groups of human beings: traditional ("our ancestors fif it this way&quot , bureaucratic (static methods of operation within a large population, usually from the top levels down), and charismatic (a person with what followers consider unique appeal and ability). Charismatic leaders tend to be shooting stars that are replaced by their follower(s) with bureaucratic talents.

Like others here, it makes me gag to refer to the defendent as "charismatic." But he is in the sense that many sociopaths are. Add the money required to live his previous lifestyle, along with his calls to the darker impulses of a segment of society, and he ended up president. Enduring this era has made it seem unending, but the truth is that his time in politics ends next year. It wasn't that long on the larger sense. But if we do not completely crush the republican party that both created him and he in turn created -- Locard's exchange principle from 200 years ago --it transforms.

I've been watching some film of this fellow Ramaswamy, and consider him a (if not "the&quot type of "leader" that will lead the attack on democracy. If we do not crush the republicans in 2024, it is likely we will be dealing with him in 2026 and '28.

It is in the low 70s here in rural upstate NY, with a clear sky and beautiful sunshine. It's supposed to warm up by the weekend, and likely be in the low 90s next week. Can't beat that! My rain barrels are full, so I'll be able to keep my gardens watered. I tended to both of them this afternoon, and thus am looking forward to my supper.

The belt on my drier broke this morning, and so I had to venture to a laundromat to dry two loads of wash. I told my older son I wanted him to help me put a new belt on this weekend. He said he'd rather buy me a new drier. Kids these days! Darned focus on new things. This one isn't a say over 28 years old ...... though maybe a week or month older. I lose track.

and recently won a substantial amount in a civil suit against a corporation. I had helped him organize information for the law firm, and I think he wants to buy me something. Last week, when he was here, he told me to pick out a riding lawn mower. I told him that it is his younger brother that mows my lawn when he comes over to train -- which he does frequently, even after retiring from the ring. Since he became a father, he limits himself to some curious races that are over 30 miles. This gives me near daily access to watching my now one year old grandson. Along with my boy having turned several tooms here into a gym, I know he would refuse to ride a mower. He wears some thing that is beyond me, that tells him how many steps he takes on my large lawn.

(My older daughter brings groceries if she is coming here, and my younger one brings clothes -- even though I assure her I recently bought some, no more than two decades ago.)

Thousands of books, CDs (no vinyl - divorce...) Too many clothes that I'll never wear. Lots of garden and shop equipment.

Don't know how to responsibly dispose of the 95% that I don't need/want (never needed). Spend money to have it "repurposed". It's a sad society.

Makes me think of this poorly remembered anecdote:

A missionary was making his yearly trip to the deep jungle where he regularly visited and brought bags of discarded garments. When he arrived the village chief said how sorry he was that so many people in the missionary's community were dying and giving up their clothes.

In other places, we don't need 5-10-20 sets of pants, shirts, shoes.

We need to unite all good people for this election. I know some think the best way to crush the enemy is with our foot on their neck. Others think the base of the skull is better. I say, "Unite the tribes!," and do both! (grin)

A month or so ago, I ran into an old friend in the grocery store. He is a republican who served many years in the NYS Assembly. The type of republican that was capable of rational thought, and even when we disagreed -- no matter how strongly -- we had respectful conversations. He is not happy with the current republican party. My concern is that his type are an endangered species, likely facing extinction.

I suffered a massive spine injury in 2007, at the time I was athletic and about 215 lbs. I kept eating like I was as active as prior to my injury, I gained weight. At my heaviest a few years ago, I was just under 250lbs (I got to 249.5 lbs. in clothes and was not about to let myself hit 250 proper...).

Even at my heaviest I was way slimmer than 'Prisoner Number'. And while it's not easy to tell in video I suspect I have broader shoulders than he does and have longer arms/bigger hands (I actually have a 6'4" arm span). There is no way (even if he were really an inch taller than me) that he is only 215 pounds. I think he wears extra large sport coats to hide his chubbiness. When I was working at laws firms, I saw this quite often where attorneys would wear a jacket that is 3 or 4" larger in the chest to cover their belly and make the coat appear 'square/straight'.

*(semi-brag incoming and beside the point, but here you go) I will be 53 this month and lost 1 pound per year I have been alive.

That is no fun! I was injured in 2001, had lots of back surgery, and 2+ years of PT to get walking okay again. I gained weight, and find it much harder to lose these days than when I was young, and surfed weight classes in the ring when I went to distant cities to fight their top dogs.

That's great that you have been able to cut weight.

and sorry for your injury.... Being ambulatory is huge!

I too have gone through a couple of surgeries; Double discectomy and fusion of C5-C6 and C6-C7, plus a lumbar decompression surgery.

I'm doing pretty ok physically given my injury. I took up disc golf in recent years, so I have something active that, most of the time, doesn't aggravate my pain issues as the pain is my biggest hurdle. Mechanically, I'm doing ok other than nerve damage.

I am certainly happy to shed the weight... I think it has eased the pain in my lower back some. And yeah, it was super hard to lose the weight and took several years. Though in the long run, I think it's better I lost the weight slowly, because I think that makes it easier to keep off than 'instantly' dropping much poundage...

the defendent hosted gights promoted by Don the parasite King. Around that time, King was unsatisfied with the amount of money he was making off Mike Tyson, and was considering dumping him. It was when Mike was using extreme amounts of cocaine, and was undisciplined and had violent outbursts. I know, how odd that might happen when a multi-millionaire is shoveling mountains of white powder up their nose.

After Mike smacked King, the defendent considered buying Mike's contract at the time, but that didn't happen. Too bad, because a lot of problems might have been avoided if Mike went after him.

I don't know how DU can go on without her. I am sad that I haven't been in touch with her much this past year. Selfishly I thought she would always be here with us. I think now it is safe for us to call her by her real name, Mary.

I agree that we need to crush and humilate the republicans in every way possible. All they have to offer are conspiracy theories and lies. They have zero policy ideas or even the tiniest thing that might be beneficial to the American public. Thing is they have successfully fooled a good percentage of the public and they will keep voting for them.

When I retire I want to devote a substantial amount of tie to the democratic cause. But that is a few years away. I wrack my brain trying to figure out how I can contribute with my limited time and I can think of nothing but donate donate donate. So I do. I would like to donate to candidates who stand the best chance of winning because the last two election cycles I feel like a threw away a lot of money on candidates who didn't stand much of a chance.

I am an unguided missile. What to do? It isn't enough to want to crush repubs. I really need to know what actions I can take that will have the most effect. The most bang for my buck if you will.

Think back to when we were kids, we got most of our news from papers and the hour long nighly news. Back then the media was not so slanted, so we were fairly informed.

The young these days are informed via the web. And the web is slanted toward freedom and openess. Two traits the pubbies do not favor. So we need to figure out how we use the web to spread our information. The young need to hear from us and how we want them to be free and informed.

AOC, and others like her, are the leaders we need. Not only is she younger than us, she is in touch with people her age and she is really learning politics very quickly.

IMO, we must not get too deep with our explanations. Memes are the in. We spill a few tactical memes, the web provides the background and the pubbies become scattered and on their heels wondering what hit them.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. It is much appreciated. In response, I first must say that I recognize that I am not totally objective. My children are convinced that I am the oldest living organism on earth -- when they see a picture of Otzi (the Ice Man), they say, "Look! Dad's senior picture!" And yet AOC and Rep. Omar are my two favorite members of the House.

I also remember Minister Malcolm X saying that in order to have communication, one must speak the language the other person speaks and understands. And I recognize the value of memes for communicating with the younger generations. In my day, one concentrated on a 30 or 60 second commercial, or a concise ad in a newspaper. Of course, Malcolm and others showed the value of publishing their own paper -- I always enjoyed the "underground" papers, and wrote for a few. My favorite was the YIPPIES! newspaper, "Overthrow" (aka Yipsters Times). Ah, the pre-internet era!

Tayloring a coordinated message that reaches a wide audience is a possibility that is open to us.
