(58,785 posts)Whole new, very different set of memories since of course. Dad at least had been reported by a fellow officer to superiors, who contacted the FBI.
The 2019 application was enough to allow Tuck into a Telegram group for a central Floridas Space Force Proud Boys chapter. There, the then-cop described joining the Proud Boys after mainlining videos of anti-fascists on YouTube, which then led him to videos by Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes.
"Anyone else decide to join after seeing antifa videos online? Lol. I got myself in a rabbit hole on YouTube and watched 6 hours of videos of antifa attacking people. I was like 'Fuck this, I'm joining the Proud Boys' lol, Tuck wrote. I watched hours of antifa videos which then led me to Gavin videos. He spoke the truth.
Which lead him to the Capitol. Stupid, stupid, but his choice. Any honest and competent cop would be well aware that overall RW street violence was far more pervasive, and violent, than LW. Instead, he eagerly searched out and mainlined the highly questionable contents of that "rabbit hole."
Father, son and daughter-in-law in their old life.

(70,594 posts).... and proudly racist organization. Do you know if the Tucks served anytime? BTW some black
cops can be pretty damn racist too.
The number of police, fire fighters, and military both active and retired that joined in on 1/6 "wilding"
is massive.

(58,785 posts)people who share their general world views, though; so if they were still together as he took the Proud Boy and then insurrectionist turn, maybe their marriage is holding through the troubles.
Charges against him are worse than his father's, I think he struck an officer as well as entering, so guessing he's among those still awaiting trial and sentencing.
I read he'd apparently left police work for insurance sales before Jan 6. Not even 30.

(72 posts)No worries for the traitor. Simply apply for some southern or even a northern Sherriff's department MAGA sympathizers and they will pin another badge on him. Many of Hitler's concentration camp guards were previously civilian police officers and just as many escaped prosecution, basically let go by the allies whereupon most returned to their previous police jobs in Germany. It was a massive miscarriage of justice, but not without major controversy amongst Western and European
Allies at Nuremberg. One excuse I heard why this happened was the scope of an operation to round up the killers and the pressure the prosecutors felt by German citizens rebelling against such operation who felt going after the underlings would sour the Nuremberg war crimes investigations and perceived as an anti German operation.

(58,785 posts)he probably will never again be an LEO armed with the authority of the state.
I know too well what you mean, but fortunately, this isn't Nazi Germany. VERY different. Early on, National Socialist thugs routinely used beatings, murders, arsons, blackmails, armed robberies in getting power -- abetted by sympathetic local authorities.
In today's world, taking on rejects who'd been let go as unfit etcetera is high risk. One judgement can bankrupt a municipality; truth becoming known, as it does, can cause major scandal.
Of course, this wannabe brown-shirt's qualifications would soar if there was a RW authoritarian takeover.

"I can't be racist towards (insert name) , I married one!"
Well then, that does it. Of course, that beats all.
Makes me wonder why their spouses go along with it.
Just like Lou Dobbs was highly racist and discriminatory towards Latinos with his comments, and then whenever someone called him out on his BS, he pointed to his Latino wife as proof he couldn't be those things.

(58,785 posts)that people, and biases, come in infinite variety and that bias is often (usually?) selective.
Btw, there's no indication in this guy's story so far that racism is a strong trait. The Proud Boys is unquestionably white nationalist leaning but "welcomes" minority males and has tried to keep the racism members bring in from defining it. Afro-Cuban Enrique Tarrio?
Misogyny, though! Male-only organization. Credo supposedly recited at meetings: Put a Ring on It and Knock Her Up.' Or as a woman put it, He puts her on a pedestal and she goes down on it."

(72 posts)I'm a retired LEO, retired many years ago. "Jarhead" haircuts were not popular back in my day, mainly Marines from the start of enlistment and beyond as a sign they were Marines. With the other services, you had no choice at the start of bootcamp, we were all given a buzz cut. However, maintaining that haircut, unlike the Marines wasn't popular, at least not in the Navy or Air Force.
Many newer or rookie police officers wear the Jarhead haircut these days. I personally feel it makes them look out of touch. I didn't like it because it made my ears look bigger. Police officers aren't military people and wearing jarhead haircuts, in my opinion, can send the wrong message.
