To clarify, they are pro Israel because certain things need to happen to Israel according to Revelations in order to trigger the Rapture, and part of that is the Jews convert to Christianity, if I recall.

They are antisemitic because they are authoritarian fascists. Jews only have value to them if they convert, or they set off the Rapture. Looked at from that pov it makes perfect sense.

Evangelicals support Israel because Jesus must return to Israel to fulfill their version of Biblical destiny; ie. the second coming of Jesus is part of rapture theology.

I have a distant cousin, Grace Halsell, who wrote about this - "Forcing God's Hand: Why Millions Pray for a Quick Rapture... And Destruction of Planet Earth". The book is out of print, but used copies are available. She was also a speechwriter for LBJ.
