I just got back in, and checked DU to find many are saying--Off with her head! Over an honest question I had about MSNBC suspending some hosts because it was the first I'd heard of it. I couldn't find an answer, so that's why I was asking. I like all 3 of these guys.
Thanks for the people who stood up for me, although I was unintentionally misled. Mea culpa.

(70,484 posts)i suspect that was about half the problem. when i see something hard to believe there, i just dont any more. unless its someone i know there and trust. kyrstal ball is not on that list.
we rly have to b careful about giving oxygen to bullshit.
we all fall for shit sometimes, tho.

(15,622 posts)And still, a huge percentage of posts at DU use the xitter as a source - frequently without bothering to do any context or analysis. They are really just spouting what musk-rat wants us to see.

(1,857 posts)And I appreciated it, but didn't appreciate the hostile replies you got. That's why I didn't jump into that thread
I hadn't heard the bit of misinformation you asked about, but because you asked I was made aware it was circulating. Now I know it's not true.
Thanks for asking.

(91,284 posts)And personal apologies to you for having jumped in to the fray, even tho it was a one-liner. That previous thread that you did not see was a fist-fight not your fault.

(44,303 posts)As it is, it sorta sounds like you never found out what the answer to your question was.
Thanks in advance!

(36,988 posts)Also, big whoop... it was just a question! Perhaps others were also misinformed and could have benefited from the info in the thread. People act like fellow DUers are tuned in 24/7. Ignore 'em, we got your back!

(2,473 posts)It can be an innocent mistake and yep, it does feel like, "Off with yer head!" Makes one very careful about what they post. But maybe that's the way folks want it.

(1,397 posts)The reason I almost never put up an OP. My head has been offed enough for just putting an innocent question out there. It's too bad that in a MAGA-free place we still have traces of Karen. (Uh oh, wrong thing to say?)

(3,402 posts)Theres a mean-spirited group here that just waits to dispute something so they can attack the person who posted it. Theyll even look for you on other threads to jump down your throat. Lately I self-delete a lot just to keep from being attacked. Those people are taking the fun out of DU.

Yes, I've found that even if you add disclaimers that you aren't sure of something, there are still people here who insist on playing "spot the infidel!", as if they win some prize for identifying anyone they think might be a troll and jumping down their throats.

(47,642 posts)Ive made the mistake of stating something in the subject line, and then asking Is this true? in the body of the post, and then getting righteously hammered in the replies
lol.
Not saying thats what happened here. Just that thats what happened to me.

(15,752 posts)Its a good lesson for all of us to learn - to pause before repeating a dubious report/tweet/FB post.
I know you were just asking DU whether the story was true, but for those who hadnt read the previous threads debunking the rumour, it could potentially spread misinformation.
Tip for the future: if you come across a story that seems dubious or hard to believe, before posting/retweeting, etc, Google it and see if any reputable outlets are carrying it. If not, then dont repeat the story, instead, wait and see if any verification emerges.
Remember: a lie can travel around the world before the truth gets its pants on.

Lesson: Always ck sources, even if they're numerable.
For instance, one I did ck was from: "The Business Standard" - sounds legit, right?
BUT...Research revealed:
The Business Standard is a Bangladeshi daily newspaper published in English and Bengali. The newspaper was founded by The Horizon Media and Publication Ltd. More ... Wikipedia
