(22,079 posts)I'm sure a lot of Israelis are also curious as to how the Gaza perimeter - one of the world's most sophisticated - could've been disactivated so quickly and effectively, and undetected.

(111,802 posts)and totally discounted the possibility.
I suppose Netanyahu thought a war would keep him in power.
I sincerely hope he thought wrong.

(111,802 posts)There are more.
It looks like Putin has been arming Hamas for years, most of the stuff Israel is finding in tunnels, hospital areas, schools, and other hiding places is Russian.

(6,486 posts)Possible he could be impeached but thats a high bar in the Knesset thats unlikely, even after this shit show.
The only hope is that one or more of the bigger coalition parties drops out. Could happen but their supporters are probably in that 27% support.
So unless Biden can talk him, or pressure him, into resigning
were stuck with him for 2 more years.

(12,792 posts)Israeli Likud party members discuss plans to oust Netanyahu
Israeli ministers and lawmakers from the ruling Likud party are discussing a plan to oust current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli media reported Tuesday.
Channel 13 News reported that the plan includes recruiting 61 lawmakers to pass a vote of no confidence on Netanyahu's government, and to form a new government without going to elections.
Channel 13 added that the Likud lawmakers fear that if Netanyahu stays at the party helm and then leads it into a loss in the next elections, most of those lawmakers will not be part of the Israeli political system.
It added that after the end of the military ground operation in Gaza, which so far shows no signs of concluding, the lawmakers will move ahead with their plans to have a parliamentary session to oust Netanyahu.

(6,486 posts)On the surface, it gives Bibi personal incentive to keep the military ground operation going beyond what's necessary to secure the hostages. My guess is that if the hostages are freed, Bibi's out the next day no matter what military operations may still be in progress.

(763 posts)At least Israel has a mechanism for getting rid of hopeless incompetents in leadership - they should be taking advantage of it now!
It's dangerous to leave this person in power. He's essentially a collaborator (at best, a useful idiot) with Hamas. Expecting he can fix a giant problem he created out of (at best) incompetence is folly. The apparent murderous fiasco of Al Shifa hospital is not grounds for optimism!

(10,184 posts)catastrophic event to see their support plummet. The Israeli people need to quit playing with the hard RW that has allowed Bibi to stay in power. Put him in jail for the bribery and fraud that he was being tried for, while they sort out if there is more to come with crimes against humanity. Vote for someone who truly wants peace in the region.

(7,157 posts)They'll continue the settlements. And they won't be in any hurry to rebuild Gaza unless it's for Israelis to move into.
Likud removing Netanyahu is like MAGA NUTS removing Kevin McCarthy.
