I'm not sure what people expected. As I noted in another thread on the topic (linked in a reply below), "former first ladies" is a very small club, and we shouldn't use Trump or his family as a basis for our own behavior. Leaving her out of a spite or whatever would be pretty petty, and the Carters are the epitome of class.

They’re also very forgiving and gracious. I doubt very much that Melania will do anything untoward. I wouldn’t be surprised if she gets some hugs from the others. Remember how kind the Obamas were to her on Inauguration Day when Piss Wig left her behind at the car?
