Woke up yesterday morning with a mild headache and congested sinuses. Nose was dripping like a leaky faucet. Thought it was just a cold. Feeling a bit better today, but Susan insisted that I take a COVID test. It's positive. I'll figure out the next step, but this throws our holiday plans out the window.

(28,811 posts)this is one of my greatest fears. i don't even know how it is possible that i haven't had it yet, but i find it very hard to believe that i would be asymptomatic with all the comordities i have.

(100,107 posts)I had it back in October and wound up missing a concert I was looking forward to. The nice thing is with the vaccines, I didn't end up in the hospital or anything. That reminds me I need to head over to CVS today and get my COVID vaccine software update!

Edit - have had all shots, one about a month ago.
It's miserable, but not life threatening.

(111,367 posts)Keep an eye on your temperature. Mild covid generally produces only a low grade fever, but it's there (don't treat anything under 102F. You can take meds for a headache or body aches, just don't take them for the temperature, which helps kill the bugs).
When it's been down for 72 hours you're probably going to be shedding only viral debris, which will give a positive response to a PCR assay but won't infect anyone. You can wear a mask to be extra sure if you're going to be around old folks.
Your mext step will be spending a few days binge watching junk TV and carefully disposing of used tissues so no one else has to touch them wguke you wait to get better.

(9,537 posts)He came down with it 4 or 5 days ago, so we had to cancel our holiday party and going to several other holiday events.
Now we're hoping no one else in the family gets it, so we'll all be healthy enough to enjoy Christmas when our daughter comes to visit. Hubby had all the vaccines, and probably got it at a holiday event with friends.
He has a cough and some congestion, but his lungs are okay. He's on Paxlovid and doing a little bit better.
Our son had COVID back before there were vaccines and he lives with us, but somehow my hubby and I managed not to get it.
Stay hydrated and drink lots of tea with ginger and turmeric,to keep the inflammation down so your lungs will be okay. I've been taking Ginger-Turmeric gummies from Costco since the pandemic started, exposed at least 5 times closely and still haven't had it. Hoping my luck holds.
I hope you feel better soon and can still enjoy Christmas or at least New Year's!

(13,142 posts)when I had it in July I tested negative within 5 days. I took two tests to be sure. I did however get a booster in May so that may have helped.

(15,291 posts)...but at least if you're vaxxed, and especially get Paxlovid on top of that, your personal suffering should likely be minimal.
My wife and I came down with COVID once before Paxlovid was available, but we both were vaccinated and only had symptoms about as intense as a mild cold.
Get well soon!
