Why isn't there more mocking from Dems

of Trump's spectacular ignorance about just about everything? We post clips and quotes here and have a good laugh, but I can't help remembering how ruthless popular media--not just SNL--were about George W.'s stupidity. Why aren't we as Dems in congress and campaign workers and editorial writers more blatant about the astounding depth of Trump's ignorance--this is a guy, President of the goddam USA, who had to ask an aide "what's the big deal about Pearl Harbor?" And he went to fucking *military school*.

I know that part of the problem is preaching to the choir. MAGAs do not read or listen to anyone who disparages the Orange Rapist, but if we are relentless, our smirking at his stupidity might soak down through the layers of cotton wool his supporters have wrapped themselves in.

Making fun of him is our most potent weapon.

The reason the right's effort work is because they throw everything including the kitchen sink at it, and they see which effort works and then amplify the working one. The right take the shot-gun approach: blast it with everything. We try to be that laser-guided precision sniper and try to hit with one round and one round only.

Forget it. Just hit him (and everyone else on the right) with any and all methods. Snide comments, jokes, veiled threats, whatever. Just overwhelm them with everything. See which ones make them flinch. See which ones dig deeper than usual. See which one catches on with the populace. Then pour salt on the wounds by amplifying the methods that connect.

It's a political war and we need to use any and all methods as part of our arsenal.

We need to be dismissive when we laugh at him. There is an old saying in performer circles: There is no such thing as 'bad' publicity. Even making a spectacle out of him is still playing into his (and MAGA) hands. We need to start just laughing and walking away whenever any of them act up in the name of their orange deity. No major stories, no press hounding for responses... just point, laugh, and walk away shaking your head. THAT is what we need to be doing, collectively. Mockery and ridicule are fine, but it is being ignored that causes them the most mental damage. They cannot handle that. Take it from an old ham.

There is still work to be done in the current term with the current legislature. The House is pulling stunts at the border and threatening, once again, for the US to default paying its debts, while refusing to look at a Senate compromise immigration security Bill. Perhaps attack GOP House members. Attack Conservative States that are banning women with risky pregnancies from receiving life saving medical care.

Attack the policies of the GOP.

You'll see occasion, isolated jabs about republicans, as one-offs, in a larger speech or whatever. But the coverage will be about a policy position or a gaffe or a defense against republican attack.

When they cover Donnie they often lead with his latest insult or bigoted comment, which really just reinforces and promotes his sick worldview.

Always remember how corrupted and biased our media has become. People who don't play ball with the preferred media narratives usually don't get invited back. It's not just about what democrats say. It's about what makes it through the media, repeatedly.

Jan 2024

The Left and Democrats don't need to be like Trump to win. We need to echo Biden's successes and what we support, warning of what a Trump victory would mean for America. The most important way for Trump to be defeated is for the Left to turn out and vote in record numbers for Biden and a straight Democratic ticket. No excuses, no voting for a 3rd party candidate which is useless. Sadly though, too many on the Left really are like herding cats. In 2016, how many on the Left thought Trump was a joke, that Hillary was sure to win giving them permission for vote for a 3rd party candidate (here in WI, Jill Stein of the Green Party received more votes than Trump's margin of victory and those didn't come from Republicans).
Voting is our superpower and we need to exercise it.

You say it's their most potent weapon but based on what?

The reality is that making fun of Trump isn't going to win over his voters and very well could turn off voters Biden needs to win who then think there really is no difference between both sides - that they're both juvenile and ugly.

You seem to be under the impression Biden is in direct competition with Trump for voters. I disagree. Trump isn't winning votes from Biden. If Biden doesn't win it's because he lost voters to third party candidates. These are voters who already hate Trump and have zero interest in voting for him but aren't sold on Biden for a second time.

Making fun of Trump isn't going to win those voters over.
