(54,149 posts)LBJ ran for Senate and VP in 1960 and Lloyd Bentsen did it again in Texas in 1988. Biden ran for VP & Senator simultaneously in 2008. The only person to give up a senate run to be on a national ticket in modern history was Barry Goldwater in 1964 and the precedent there is... uninspiring.

(6,284 posts)If he was up for election in 2024, that would be different. He couldn't run for both offices simultaneously.
Now if Elise Stefanik was Trump's VP running mate, she would lose her House seat, since she has to run for reelection this fall.
